Status: offline 		I was wondering how many of you brand your subs?  I would like to brand mine and was thinking of having him tattooed.  Any suggestions?

Tasteful, discreet, reasonably generic just in case you two don't last forever - you don't want his last scene with you to be between him and a doctor sanding your name off his buttocks

Status: offline 		Sir & I have talked about the possibility of His branding me.  It would be with the first letter of His last name, which also happens to be the first letter of my first name so it would still be okay for it to be there even if we didn't last.

Status: offline 		I love the idea of being tattoo'd by my Owner we plan to do it in the next few months actually :)  I have another thread about it but it's more about the styles and opinions on such not the actual idea of it per say (though there are some opinions posted never the less) 
Branding i'm not such a big fan of for a couple reasons.  1 it is more likely to get infected (I have been branded it got infected and hurt like hell the design is long gone even the scar is hardly recognizable anymore (20 years will do that)  2. brands don't look as pretty heh

Tattoos are definitly my choice as for the style/design that's of course a personal prefrence :)   I am very excited to be getting tattoo'd though for my owner.   (have about 7 tattoos at the moment no bdsm related and t he oldest tattoo is about 18 years old now and still like it)

Status: offline 		At the moment I am thinking about putting a tattoo of entwined serpents around the boykin's sexy/slinky hips.  It has the features that a sexy tattoo should; it's hot, it's beautiful, and it's semi-private, not something that everyone will be seeing when he's wearing normal work clothes.

A really nice bonus to that tattoo: there will be more than a week where I have to stay in the house and not wear pants ;-D And it'll hurt and be sore to the touch sooooo bad :D

Status: offline 		I suggest  a brand to start with, brands on light skin, don't tend to last forever (mine lasted less then a year), and with the new skin creams like mederma around, they can if you should break up, be removed totally.

Plus its a good way to start out you know? And then get something permanent like a tattoo. Cell popping might be right up your alley (artisticdomme.com for cell popping info), unless your sub is a more hardcore masochist, then a strike brand would be preferable.

IME...Cell poppings and strike brands (a strike brand is  kind of like cell popping, but the instruments used in strike branding are bigger, thus leaving bigger marks etc, but arnt as damageing to skin as an iron branding, which is generaly the type of brand that infect easier) are the way to go for you.

Status: offline 		Strike brands are just ugly. period. Even with an expert doing it.. trying to control the heat and make each strike even: they aren't.
It's so homemade looking.

I can't say anything about your technique Sunnyfey... so maybe it's different for you, but strike brands are the Last thing I'd do for marking.
Some people scar greater than others, you can't tell for sure how long the thing will last or how wide the individual strokes will be.

I really would like to brand my slave and if we do, it will be with a Lady in this area who has
medical cautery equipment and experience. Her work is exquisite. For the OP, I'd second the plan for a tatoo.

Status: offline 		I suppose it depends on the instruments used for the brand MsMillgrove. The finer instruments, the better the brand. And it helps to have some idea of line work, tracing etc. But yeah I've seen some pretty shitty brands over the years. And honestly a lot of people who do brand their submissive, have no CLUE wtf they are doing, so it ends up looking crappy.

So, big tip here, find an ARTIST to do your work. Not some hack you met at the local dungeon.

Status: offline 		My Master and I have discussed temporary branding with the ultraviolet wand (he has a specific attachment and has used it before). As MsMillgrove points out, though, we have to plan on it being done in a way that we won't have any objections if it does scar, as it can't always be predicted. So, we would need to plan out the design and draw it on my skin ahead of time, even if it isn't intended to be permanent, rather than writing "slut" across my tummy or random freehand designs. Right now, I couldn't handle that level of intensity from it in terms of pain tolerance - I enjoy what we've done so far, but he's kept it fairly light. http://www.violetwand.org/branding.htm

Status: offline 		Ive been branded, by my submissive (of all people) and a good friend.. It wasn't intended to signify a relationship or ownership, but it will always be in my heart ;-) who performed it for me. They used a violet wand with a metal utensil shaped like a pen. The good thing about the violet wand branding is that you can vary the intensity of it using the controls on the wand itself.

We went over my brand another time in another session. I might go over it once more just to ensure it's permanence, but had we only done it once it likely would have faded and become virtually unnoticeable.

The experience was interestingly intense and marked high on the sensation ratio. On a relative scale, I would akin it to labor pains.

I pierced his penis 11 times.I even carved a slave number on his back with a scalpal.
I had started doing a tattoo on him....he begged for these things and then.......he left.

my ex play partner was the same way. Wanted me to put my smokes out on him, even my cigars, cut my name into his back, etc......

He left after I told him I was starting to worry about the scar tissue on his back

Status: offline 		some other temporary branding ideas would be to use a heave gage coat hanger bent to a set shape and flat on the bottom this heated in boiling salt water and placed directly on the skin. leaves a nice pink burn that will fade over a month or so if not retouched.
another is to use a cautery pen like the bovie brand. it has a small element at the tip that is used in surgery to stop small bleeds but can be used to leave small and more elaborate designs on the skin.
