Round 4 of 5, still, no bitching! Just vote.

For this one i just had pick Dr Strangelove.  i am a big fan of Peter Sellers and Director Staney Kubrick.  i lived through the cold war and air raid drills in school - "duck and cover".

i'm wondering how much of a generational gap is going on here.

A movie like Dr Strangelove must seem a bit wierd for the folks who were born after the cold war was over.

fluffy, that could play a part in it, but then again, it's in the lead!

fluffypet61 -> RE: "Greatest" movie of all time Round 4 of 5 (9/25/2009 7:44:53 PM)

Not really.  There are 8 votes not for it.

Level -> RE: "Greatest" movie of all time Round 4 of 5 (9/25/2009 7:51:13 PM)

fluffy, that's the kind of math they use in politics...

Hmm, now Shawshank is in the lead.

Blade Runner.

I'm with Kia: Blade Runner.  It's influenced every sci-fi movie since in terms of appearance and perception of the future.  And, there was nice eye-candy too...Harrison Ford, Darryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, etc.  Ooh, and while I can't recall Rutger Hauer's dying speech verbatim off of the top of my head: powerful, poetic.

ET cause it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

You made me choose between The Godfather and Shawshank Redemption? Not Fair!

(For the record- I choose Shawshank. Now, if it had been Godfather II, there would have been a REAL problem.)

Choose between Strangelove, Blade Runner, and The Godfather?  Three master works, too dear to me, I just don't know how to do it.

I will say, these 5 rounds do contain some of my most-admired, iconic films.  It's fun, Level! even if the prospect of voting against one favourite gem for another sparks anxiety.

And I agree with the person who made a call out for a Kurosawa film.  At least two of the classic films you've mentioned are based on his.  Star Wars is loosely based on The Hidden Fortress, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, upon the character created in Yojimbo.  Although for the greatest Kurosawa film, among his great films, for the scope and social significance of it, probably I'd suggest Seven Samurai.

But maybe bringing in foreign films expands the selection too much.

I love talking film...

By the way, I wonder if allowing multiple selections in these polls would work?

MadamMarque, thanks for voting, and for the input [:D] I agree, Kurasawa could, and should, have been on here. I wouldn't allow multiple selections though, if for no other reason than I get a kick out of really working the choices over in my head, getting to that one vote.

Cuffkinks -> RE: "Greatest" movie of all time Round 4 of 5 (9/26/2009 1:03:45 PM)

Tough choice to make. I'm partial to "Rocky," but of the list you gave,
I have to go with "The Godfather."
What..."The Pet" didn't make the list?...Shocking!

GreedyTop -> RE: "Greatest" movie of all time Round 4 of 5 (9/26/2009 1:14:39 PM)

GAH!! I can't choose!  Blade Runner, Shawshank, and Dr. Strangelove???  No way to choose.....
