I did not want to hijack the other thread on waxing so I started this thread. I would like to know if anyone has experienced laser hair removal. I would like to be completely smooth (as permanently as possible) and wanted to know how effective this method is. I have googled and done research on this, but I would appreciate if anyone has experienced this if they could share what it is like. For example, how many sessions? After the sessions are complete, are you completely hair-free down there? Is it permanent? Side-effects?

Thank you in advance for your response. I really would like first-hand information about this method.

I have had it done on my bikini area. It is pretty much painless, the descriptions you hear about it being like a quick rubber band shap are correct. The hair removal takes many trips depending on the growth pattern and color of the hair (darker the hair and lighter the skin the better). It took me about 7 trips and the results are not permenant. I had mine done about 6 years ago and some has come back, not all, and the texture is thinner. I had horrible folliculitis and that was the main reason for this, worked like a charm. I tried electrolysis many years ago - horrible!!! Waste of money, very painful for me.
I think well worth the time and money

Never had it done, but if they can do laser surgury on eyes with no problem, I would think hair removal should be quite painless

Had it done on a small area (Not pubic or genital).  It has not been permanent, thus I find the expense to be exorbitant.  Had it worked, I'd consider it to have been a bargain.
Best wishes,
Davan

I have had laser on my pubes and armpits. I had about 6 sessions and the results are about the same as MistressEllen's - the hair on my pubes is still there but it's much finer and only takes a quick run around with a razor twice a week to remain smooth. Armpit hair however is almost non existent - a quick swipe with a razor now and then is enough to keep it hair free.

If you decide to go ahead with this, make sure you don't go just before, during or just after your period. My pain threshold was much lower then and it seemed to sting a lot more than when I went in the middle of my cycle

Laser hair "removal" is about as permanent as welts on one's ass. At best, laser hair removal is only FDA-cleared as suitable for a REDUCTION of hair over many, many, many...and I mean MANY treatments...but it shouldn't ever be thought of as permanent! That is a huge lie those in the hair removal industry perpetuate or purposefully keep vague.

Watch out for those in the laser hair removal business. They tend to be odd personalities that have no trouble lying through their teeth about the realities of their product. They will quote you ridiculous prices for a procedure that will not come close to permanence, because they bought the machine at huge cost and now need to make it pay for itself. The entire focus is not making your skin hairless...its about making their equipment pay for itself after a large investment. Do not be fooled. You are getting ripped off, no matter how believable or likable the technicians and the salon owners are.

I have some hair on my back I've tried getting rid of for years using this method. I am caucasian, fair-skinned with dark hair...supposedly the ideal candidate. Well, guess what? Somehow...mysteriously, no make, laser color or laser intensity has been effective in making it close to permanent. It does come back over a period of about a month, though it does thin your hair out a little. I know people don't want to hear this, but electrolysis, to my knowledge, is the only way to get rid of it for good.

Oh, and one more thing...rubber band snap? Yeah, maybe, on level 1-3 intensity. Go higher (which you will need to!), and it will be more painful than that. Instead of that "rubber band snap" they love to use in ads, think of hundreds of microscopic needles darting into your skin for a moment and then dissolving with a heated sensation. That's what it really feels like. It can be tolerable depending upon what area the laser it hitting. Other times, it will make you jerk back from the pain.

My consensus? For the level of pain and cost, this procedure is not worth it.

from what I've googled, electrolysis was usually listed as the only "permanent" way, and thats after many sessions.

I've always wanted to do this, but I won't. Not gonna waste money on little things.

I second that - it was substantially more painful than a "snap" or sting when I went.

In addition, some may refuse to remove all your pubes or do a Brazilian.  My place said the chance of burns was too great, since the skin has a darker tone the closer you get to the cooter opening.

I have done both, laser is quick and will reduce hair and make it more fine.  Only true way though is electrolysis, I have been at this for quite awhile, still get some worked on for about an hour every three months or so.

I had it done just recently an I am emensly happy with the results.  The price has really gone down and in the long run it will come out way cheaper than waxing over and over again.
