There's hardly nothing that I look at that I don't think of how I can use it for bondage or other kinky purpose. I'm like a kid in a candy store just THINKING about walking into a hardware store! ;)

For Ageplayers:
--You would be surprised at how many costumes can be pieced together on the cheap from your local thrift store!  Costume shops want $30 + for your typical kinkable costume and the quality is always cheap, but you can put together a good complete  schoolgirl outfit for around $12.

--For the cuteness factor I also like to make gags for my babygirl from small, soft baby toys or stuffed animals and lengths of ribbon.
--Fabric stores sell big bags of cast-off ribbon remnants for around $2.  Perfect for adding trim and bows to everything!

For Everyone in general:
--  a ping pong paddle is nice, but I have had simply AMAZING effects using a wooden pizza peel (those things you use to shuffle a hot pizza out of the oven).  They *look* terrifying and they make a lovely loud thwack! but they are made from very light pine and the surface area is so large, that it pushes air in front of it so it cannot really be weilded with tremendous force (in fact I broke one on a girl's hinder...like I said, cheap pine).

-- Since they first came on the market several years ago I have also been using those plastic bug-zapper tennis racket things for spankings.  Sold in sporting goods sections, battery operated and consisting of 2 wire screens separated by a small gap. When the screens contact there is a small CRACK sound.  This one also is more terrifying than harmful but WARNING: Do NOT use this on sub's face (even a slap on the cheek will cause intense pain in all fillings on that side...trust me) or on wet body parts.

Good to see that I'm not the only badly bent and money-conscious kinkster on site.

Small bulldog clips make good nipple clamps, and the holes are perfect for attaching weights (fishing sinkers) to.  All for less than $5!

Two dog leashes clipped together are about the right length for an under-the-bed restraint system if your headboard isn't up to scratch; the handles are ergonomically sound, too, if you just want your sub to grip on, instead of tying them up

I had to tie a few knots in mine to take up some of the slack.

Hardware, building supply, pet/horse supply stores and your imagination can create great toys.
Carpet runner or car floor mats with the plastic tits on the back make for great seats for the sub.
Drill a hole thru the end of a wood dowel and feed a strip of leather thong thru it, great double tale.
Hardware stores carry those steel penis rings in a varity of sizes.
A ordinary parsons table with hooks mounted on the under side makes a very vanilla bondage table.
Car batteries come with plastic handles, take it off and it makes a nice flogger.
I'm into chains so one expensive item is locks. But a case of small locks all keyed alike is not only intimating to the slave/sub but easy and quick to remove.

There is alway "DOM DEPOT" find bondage items. I built a set of spreaders from 1" PVC pipe. light weight and can come apart. abother alternitive to gas pipe is to go to an electrical supply house, and get a length of "aluminum conduit"
same thickness as gas line but about 1/4th the weight. can be threaded also..

Gaaagh!

PVC is not structurally sound enough at the wall thicknesses 1" plumbing pipe comes in. Connectors make it worse, and you have similar splinter issues when it breaks as you do with wood. I've seen 4" pipe break under less stress than a struggling submissive could put on it.

If you want a set of spreaders, my suggestion would be to get either a length of 1" solid PVC (it's in the molding section) 1 1/4" wooden dowel stock (same, it's cut your own if you want longer than 4') steel electrical conduit, or if you want fancy, a copper ground bar (used in lightning rods). All these things are at Home Depot. I've actually had a sub bend out the electrical conduit, but that folds when it fails, instead of shattering into someone's leg.

well i now know that i am going for paint stir sticks and ping pong paddles to keep on hand for when i am deemed in need of a spanking
and i once took a gstring and modified it and added a couple craft type beads- one was a rather large yellow one with the happy face on it lol...threaded beads on and stitched everything back together and was then told to wear my handiwork to work....the beads slide nicely over the fabric and you can adjust how many you want where lol...
i also refurbished another thong i had- added some chain to the sides instead of fabric and from there small clips and such could be added...

now i just need to learn how to work the power tools to try some of these other ideas out

For those who are handy with macrame, I made a nice (...well actually nasty) flogger from four lengths of triple twist cotton rope and some large bore plastic beads. I braided the handle into a solid round braid. When I had the handle as long as I wanted, I tied it off leaving the falls hang. I untwisted the twists to create thinner falls and threaded on the beads. I  knotted the ends of the falls to secure the beads. (Don't use glass or ceramic beads that could break)
The beads add weight to the falls and bite nicely but if you prefer a soft flogger you can leave them off.
I also made a nice tause type thing with a flat braid.

I have also used a hand held cheese grater, the really fine side, for bottoms of feet, butt cheeks, and nipples. Doesn't feel that bad at first *hehe*

And don't under estimate a firm toothbrush. My poor clittie about died one day after being used by one of those.

A lot of the expensive bondage items can be found cheaper at other places:

Whips, floggers tend to be cheaper at horse supply stores, some goes for Vet Tape - If you spend some time searching you can find some real deals on some of these items online.
(Try taking a look at horse.com - Vet wrap @ $1.50/roll vs. $3.50+ foe "bondage wrap" at some of the kinky sites)

eBay occasional is good for deals, mainly people selling things they no longer need - but there also is a lot of cheap junk - enjoy with caution.

Homemade floggers can be made from all kinds of rope - one of my favorite ones was made from extra long zipties (2-3 feet long and 1/2 inch wide) - bundle 10-15 of those, then wrap one end with electrical tape/duct tape/rope/etc. for a handle.

Me too PrincessDonna. There use to be a dite for instrctions on making your own TOYS, but I don't think it is around any more. I think it was called GROUMETS?
It is a shame there isn't a Forum just for this. I would like to see a "Self Bondage" Forum too, since there are so many here without Mistresses or Masters. At lest it would keep us BUSY ! LMCLAO
