winterlight -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 2:34:52 PM)

I haven't read all of the posts. If it hasn't been suggested do an excel sheet on what you spend.

For here in California it is expensive. I spend between $80.00 to $100.00 on things i need for just two days! This does include when i buy it landry soap etc.

I rarely buy bottled water or any luxury items.
I do on occasion treat myself to a lobster tail (small one) $6.99 a lb.

I do not buy alcohol, candy, chips and the other junk food. This is just for good healthy food...I still pay too much...

yellowroses -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 4:20:02 PM)

We have a 3 person home and I cook almost every night.  Once a week is eat out night.  I spend about $100.00-$150.00 per week on groceries.  I look for bargians everywhere I can and I usually buy things that are on sale.

I hope this helps.

Are you planning on filing bankruptcy?

I guess that I do not understand where your question is originating from.

EyemKnotHear -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 4:46:13 PM)

for 2 of us & dog, we spend about $50. -$60. a week

NeedToUseYou -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 4:47:35 PM)

I spend probably 5.00 a day on food, a couple dollars on soda, and guess probably 5.00 misc...

about 12.00 a day. The food may be less, I don't keep explicit track, but one thing of spaghetti, is two days for me. That is like a 1.50 for sauce, like a 1.00 for the noodles, and few for hamburger. So, when I do that, it's like 3.00 a day (plus dogs get leftovers). I'm not a big eater though. It takes me a week to drink a gallon of milk. Plus I'm not a picky eater either, as in if I can find a good deal, well I will buy in quantity. They were selling two liters for a dollar, time to buy 30. They were selling 24 packs of mountain dew for 5.00 bucks, I bought every Mountain Dew and Doctor Pepper they had. (We do have a couple soda machines). If there is a buy 1 get 1 well, I'm eating whatever that is for awhile. LOL.

That doesn't include occasional restaurant food.

ShaharThorne -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 4:50:11 PM)

Depending on if we need dogfood, it ranges from $65 to $100 a week, including trips to the bread store.

This is not even including my yarn budget...

I am gathering info, I have an appointment with an attorney and once I meet with him- I then can make a decision as to what to do.  His reply this far is that my income is too high.  This referring to $500 after I pay the house note.    I find that to be odd.  I see the heat bill figures $108 a month for a 12 month plan.  (they no longer do 10 months)

In other words- my income is too high.

Well, I suppose I might be willing to help you out if you really need it, because  you really are one of the nicest people around here. I wouldn't do it for everyone, but for you, I could definitely make an exception.

How much money do you need to send me every month in order to get  under the limit?

Level -> RE: How much do you spand for groceries? (10/10/2009 6:04:23 PM)

lol Panda [:D]

pahunk, I spend about $400 a month, for two people.

If you're looking at a chapter 7, there are 3 different ways to qualify on the income part of it.  The easiest way is the means test and it sounds like that is what he is talking about.  If you're close on the means test (which I would take him at his word), then document the crap out of everythin you spend your money on.  Collect all your monthly bills for utilities, medicines, doctors, food, gas, cell phone, cable, internet, etc.   EVERYTHING.

If you're looking at a chapter 13, then it comes down to how much you can afford to pay your creditors and documenting everything is just as important.

When they prepare a petition for bankruptcy, it will include a budget and this information will be extremely important if your attorney needs to justify expenses that are greater than the status quo.  Things like "I'm a diabetic" or "I have chronic......" or whatever plays a big role as those add to your living expenses beyond what a healthy persn has to pay.

I started throwing it all in a folder.

If I do this it will be a 13, not a 7.

When ever I think I balanced a budget then I find a missed item.  Somehow things always cost more then I plan.

So far the papers have been easy to find.

I do not know how much I have to use up.  I had not thought of it.   In  way- there might be no point in a 13 if next year - if I am upside down in the house.   Being upside down is not too hard to do right now.

Perhaps I could stretch the budget further.  Who knows.

I am curious now.

What do you spend a month?  For how many people.

Does $400 a month for one person sound like too much?

It depends how important food is, 400 a month for one person, that person is eating real well

just reading these posts...i must be doing something wrong. Ok...i am lazy...thats my problem. I do not go to stoes for special sales, etc. I do the one stop shopping thing at Walmart. My monthly total is probably 600.00 but that includes cleaning supplies, catfood and litter, the occasional clothing item (socks, tee shirts, etc). We live in a remote area and when i am the drug store (the only store that is not a half hour drive away) i pick up something needed but overpriced.

I need to take a page from Aylee and start to plan menus. I need to go to different stores for the sale items.

I will re-ask when I go in next week.   He must simply be trying to get me to think "budget".   I am thrifty with money- but I know I spend more then I plan.   I may skimp in one area then another area something comes up.

Water and heat use up $178.   I also have to wonder if some of the replies spend more then they first think...as the grocery numbers sound low.

In order to qualify for bankruptcy in Pa you must attend a one day money management class (or you did in the past) The class is free and well worth the time. You will receive a graft for monthly money management which will have you listing all income and how it is spent.

I had gone to 4 seminars- tho- likely they wont count it.  If I can learn something from it-that would be good.  I like to get a jump on info before I talk to a lawyer of high cost service pros.   That way I can cut the lesser questions and maximize the session.
