Trust your gutt, if something doesn't feel right don't hesitate to exit left.
For me personally, I used to have people meet me at a restaurant local to me, one I knew well and felt safe in because the owner and his employees knew me by name. This kind of eliminated the need for a safe call.

My current Dom has never punished me and I haven't done anything yet deserving of punishment with him. I try very hard to make him happy, just thinking he wouldn't like something is reason enough for me not to do it.  A former Dom ductaped my wrists together and whipped me across my bare ass with his belt for swearing at him and being critical of something he said.

Yeah, posted this in the wrong thread and can't edit the original anymore....oopsie. Sorry everybody [8|]

Totally new to this, is the info anywhere on red flags to watch out for, and other info, or just tell me a story of what has happend to you and what you learned from it. Thank you

"Submission for Dummies!" :D What a great idea! Oh I would so like to write that. And I just may have the excellent first-hand experience of the subject that it calls for! Er... Maybe I shouldn't be admiting that in public.

It would also make a good humiliation tool. "Hey, what are you reading these days?"
"Screw the Roses."
"I personally liked Come Hither's tone."
"Uh, my mistress is making me read Submission for Dummies." (and they all move away from you on the Group W bench.)

Caring - Love the Alice's Restaurant reference!

OP, know thy self. Know what qualities you need in a partner and what qualities will make it a toxic relationship with you. And don't get involved with anyone who you aren't compatible with, no matter how good a sales job they do.
