LadyShoshin -> Tardiness is a no no (8/31/2004 11:52:27 AM)

A sub I no longer have asked me to teach him to be on time, we worked on it for awhile and finally one day (he drove 2 hours to get to my place) I answered the door, told him he was 13 minutes late, to call me next week to make another appointment. Which he did, admitting he had been angry at me on the drive home until he realized what I was doing. He was never tardy again.

Today I was to add a new sub to my stable at 11:00 AM, he called me just before 11:00 and said he had slept in. He arrived 45 minutes late with flimsy excuses, I sternly told him to strip and put him on a ridged plastic runner over hardwood flooring. I told him he made me wait, so he could wait. My roommate was out shopping so I placed the mat in the foyer of my apartment unit, in a straight line with the door. Apparently, according to my roommate, it had the desired effect of shock, humiliation and embarrassment.

When I went to let the sub get up he started babbling excuses, I cut him off & told him to get dressed and leave. I reminded him that there is no excuse for not setting his alarm or for forgetting my apartment #. I stressed that I was taking time out of my day for him and commanded that he call me in 2 days to rebook a time.

Having talked at length with him previously, I knew that banishing him would be the worst possible punishment. He is new and very overeager. He also needs quite a bit of manners training.

We will see how it goes.
