It went wonderful, I've been gone all night at the dr's cause I was an hour early then the appointment took an hour, and I'm on a mood stabilizer, and I am going once a month to see him and I am free to see an independent therapist weekly and he thinks I need to, and I met a dear old friend of mine I'd lost contact with today by chance, and my mom and I and my dad had a huge at home therapy session and are so good again.

Do they have state or government assisted programs where you live.. Like for people with low incomes?

Not really that I know of.

all the free ones an stuff closed down or no longer accepting patience because of the economy.

My once a month therapy would be free but it's not enough I need  weekly and intensive stuff and kiaser just can't see you more than once a month.

You need to keep track of how you're feeling with the new medication. It can take six months to slowly get up to an optimum dosage for you. Assuming the first one they give you is effective.

Today I was feeling spacey and confused, and couldn't focous which isn't normal for me.

Yesterday I got all dizy and very drowsy but that's to be expected on a new med that has that side affect.

I'm surprised it's in your system that fast.

Sadly the side effects are the first effects with certain medications. I remember when I was put on an antidepressant and the side effects showed up post haste. The good effects can take up to 2 weeks, not so the side effects.

I was put on zoloft on a Friday by my primary as the psychiatrist she wanted me to see was off that day. I saw him three days later on a Monday and by that time the suicidal ideation had lifted, but it left in it's wake anxiety and nausea.

I told him a small amount of nausea was acceptable because I'd lose weight but I wasn't willing to trade severe depression for severe anxiety. He kept me on zoloft because it was working but cut the dosage down from 40mg to 12 1/2 mg. And then slowly upped it every single week. By two and a half years later when it was time to taper off, I was up to 200 mg and hadn't felt that good in years. But a nurse friend said that she thought I should be a zombie at 200. It works differently in each of us.

TFB, which one are you on? Because some of us may have had it and be more knowledgable about how long till the side effects wear off.

I was lexapro for awhile all did was make me want to sleep and sleep was good because I couldn't feel anything, but other than that I didn't feel like it did anything for me. The Doctors were idiots too so that didn't help. But in reality you can't spend 16 hours of a 24 hour day sleeping.

Celeste....i can seriously relate to Your experience.... Sometimes when i am seeing a new medical professional or whatever i just tell them the two antidepressants i am on and the amounts just to watch them do the math in their head....then they ask me if i've just recently been on that amount....they they do this *blinkblinkblink* look at me...i know the thoughts going on int heir head...it takes everything i have not to bust out laughing...

tfb,
some of us have been on a multitude so no doubt what you are on a few of us have been on them before....

It's respiridal or resipirdone, I've had it years ago and didn't have problems with it, but I've refused medications for a long time because I didn't feel they were needed until lately/.

TFB,

Glad to hear you went and got help - I've been there many times, and making that first step is hard. I took Risperdal too until about 2 years ago when my docs decided after the intensive therapy I'd put myself through for about 8 months made it safe to take me off meds entirely. I have manic-depression and ADD. I remember that the Risperdal helped a lot, that it (for me) was much milder than Seroquel, and way better choice than Zyprexa.

I'm glad to be off it, but know that in the future if I need to go back on meds, that's an option I'd be okay with. It made me verrrrrrrrrrry sleepy and loopy the first few days but that DOES wear off in a few days. Also, I gained quite a bit of weight (like 15 lbs) that went away soon as I stopped taking it.

Have you talked to your doc about Lamictal, btw? It is a mood stabilizer/antiseizure drug that was the miracle drug for me and lots of others I know. My entire family has manic-depression, extended and otherwise, and we all did wonderfully on it. Seems to help clear the mental cobwebs and helped alot with the weirdnesses of Risperdal.

Keep us posted - and remember, THERAPY THERAPY THERAPY - meds won't solve this, but they'll put you in a place mentally where you can work on that.

Much love and take care!
