TFB, Glad to hear you went and got help - I've been there many times, and making that first step is hard. I took Risperdal too until about 2 years ago when my docs decided after the intensive therapy I'd put myself through for about 8 months made it safe to take me off meds entirely. I have manic-depression and ADD. I remember that the Risperdal helped a lot, that it (for me) was much milder than Seroquel, and way better choice than Zyprexa. I'm glad to be off it, but know that in the future if I need to go back on meds, that's an option I'd be okay with. It made me verrrrrrrrrrry sleepy and loopy the first few days but that DOES wear off in a few days. Also, I gained quite a bit of weight (like 15 lbs) that went away soon as I stopped taking it. Have you talked to your doc about Lamictal, btw? It is a mood stabilizer/antiseizure drug that was the miracle drug for me and lots of others I know. My entire family has manic-depression, extended and otherwise, and we all did wonderfully on it. Seems to help clear the mental cobwebs and helped alot with the weirdnesses of Risperdal. Keep us posted - and remember, THERAPY THERAPY THERAPY - meds won't solve this, but they'll put you in a place mentally where you can work on that. Much love and take care!
