I'm sure she meant set, as opposed to rep, as you stated, but being exhausted after one rep doesn't necessarily mean you are using way too much weight. It depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking to develop strength, you would generally keep your reps anywhere from 5 down to a one rep max lift. I do strongman training in addition to bodybuilding and the majority of my compund lifts (bench, deadlift, overhead presses, etc.) I keep under 5 reps as I am in a strength building mode. quote:

A rep means doing something (a lift, a pushup, whatever) once. If your muscles are exhausted after one rep, you're using way too much weight for training, and are more likely to injure yourself than do any good.
