Have any of you sat down and actually talked to a spider?

What are you smoking, and where can I get some of it?

And for a historic perspective, Spiders have been deified more often that crocodiles, alligators, monkeys or any other creature on the planet. If you look at many ancient cultures, it was the spider that taught women how to spin clothe for clothing, anthropologists have put forth the hypothesis that primitive humans (are we really more advanced in any way other than technology) observing spider webs gave the inspiration for nets.

Then there is the fact that spider silk is stronger than any other fiber in the world, which is why chemists are busting ass to reproduce it in the lab.

Now, getting back to the mythical gifts the spiders gave humans, that may actually be the basis for women who shriek and demand their immediate and painful eradication, you ladies are afraid they gonna teach you something else which will add to your already and alleged heavy daily work load.

Also, when you consider the flying pests and other insects that spiders kill and eat, you really should be thankful. Spiders do eat flies and mosquitoes, both of which are known to carry many diseases that are harmful to humans, which indicates that spiders are actually doing us a service. Some larger species are known to eat mice, rats and some even larger species eat birds.

Another fact to note, while humans walk on two legs, with a spine that is more adapted for walking on all fours, which leads to all kinds of injuries and none injury related problems in old age, spiders never gave up on the 8 leg approach, although they have been observed using the two fore legs to manipulate their environment, which may actually class them as insects with arms.

The bottom line is that you women are pissed off at spiders at a genetic level because they realized, that of the two sexes, women were the only ones that could grasp the complexities of spinning thread to clothe, so you want to punish them for their ancestors gift.

Which ties into my theory that the females of the human species hold grudges for generations, which is why men developed the self defense mechanism of acting completely dumb in order to not get pummeled to death by some irate female because she is having a bad day, be it due to hair, cycle or just because she woke up and for whatever reason, decided to go on the warpath.

Such as my report to my superiors states.

I admit that Winsome and her Wife arrived in my town. I admit that I will help them any way I can because they are good people.

Is there some historical basis for observation of spiders having an influence on the invention of weaving, then? I didn't know that and thought it was just a Greek myth. (Arachne was turned into the first spider as a punishment for beating Artemis in a weave-off, iirc, but I'd have to check my Larousse or Bullfinch to confirm that.)

Its a fairly common theme, even in Native American cultures, thus my argument women are afraid of spiders more out of the possibilities that spiders may actually teach them something new, and thus add to their already alleged heavy work load.

(of course by making this statement I will probably get the vacation in a hospital I am wanting)

WhoreMods -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/4/2017 8:33:47 AM)

Right. The one example I'm aware of that historically involves insects in manufacturing cloth is Chinese, but as they have (or rather had) a monopoly on silkworms, but the notion that somebody might have looked at a funnel web and had a lightbulb appear over their head isn't an unreasonable one.

And the "even in Native American culture" thing sounds a bit dismissive: the Indians very obviously from the folklore that still survives had an extremely sophisticated and eclectic collection of cultures, as well as some of the most batshit insane folk stories in existence.

I used that phrase due to the simple fact that some Eurocentric academics (i can give you a list of these egotistical bastards) dismiss the nomadic Native American cultures as some sort of second class cultures, while extolling the virtue of Toltecs, Aztecs, Maya, Inca etc. Of course the fact that two of those cultures so impacted their immediate environment that they could no longer support the great cities they built and suffered cultural collapse seems to have failed to register in their closed minded skulls (the density of which seems to make lead look like aerogel in comparison.)

Any way, the spider god of the Southwest pueblo cultures is credited with teaching them to weave clothe, as well as in the cultures of the eastern tribes. The plains tribes concentrated on animal skins, since they were by nature nomadic, and the Apache and other warrior tribes in the southwest found it perfectly acceptable to raid the pueblos and loot whatever they found useful, clothe, women, food, women, pottery and did I mention women?

Thank you.
The first thing is utter horseshit, true enough. (I'm dubious that even the term "native American" is kosher: these people were there at least a thousand years before Columbus and Vespucci and there wasn't any "America" for all of that time).
I'll have to look into the pueblo thing, though as most of what I've been able to find to read concentrates on the plains tribes (which I suspect has something to do with stereotyping).

I admit K said, "aww, that's sweet, but we aren't married." [:D]

I admit getting a TN drivers license is fun. I have to locate paperwork I haven't seen in over two decades and a divorce decree I have actually never set eyes on.

Mostly, ,I admit thank you HillWilliam. That was a kind a much appreciated offer. I look forward to taking you up on it [;)]

ShaharThorne -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/4/2017 2:46:58 PM)

I admit 2 days ago, my brother's co-worker was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He died today before my brother could go visit him at the hospice. I am feeling for the family.

ShaharThorne -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/6/2017 12:08:26 PM)

I admit I resolved my sound issue...apparently the company attached the sound card to the USB port instead of the 3.5 jacks. I am able to hear the radio stations again (now if Pandora would keep the Indie Rock off of the country station....).

I admit I am tired and possibly burned out.

I admit I need a chocolate infusion.

Have four packages of Oreo double stuffs, and chewy chips ahoy chocolate chunk cookies.

Just saying.

It's got to be the original Chips Ahoy cookies for me. My mom worked at the Nabisco factory where they baked them. The ladies would sometimes sneak some cookies out in their purses. You can't believe how good Chips Ahoy cookies are when they are still warm from the oven.

DesFIP -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/6/2017 10:14:29 PM)

Oreos aren’t real cookies for me. Has to be chocolate chip.

I admit I have a conversation with spiders and let 'em know if they stay quiet in their corners; I leave em alone. If they starry verturing too close into my unavoidable line of sight, they gotta go. Kay knows if she hears me screaming, it's a spider.

I admit very well said!!!

I admit my brother has currently hell with his wife due to the ongoing court process but nevertheless offered to help with our move on the weekends when he hasnt got the kids...

I admit I hate even bothering him about it, as this “for ages taking time from the courts” kills him a lot at times...the law here says that court proceedings involving kids should be dealt with within 6 weeks...his court obviously never heard about that😥

I admit, though, mum said, that he said he is happy to help, so I will ask him about the last weekend in October...

I admit it would be a tremendous help, cause he doesnt mind spiders either, so he would be a great help for my husband😔😔😔

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/7/2017 4:03:37 AM)

I admit there is WAY more work that needs done on the house and I'm Freaking tired. Sooo much to do

I admit it is our fault because K and I came two weeks earlier than planned and are now working around the previous occupants who have not yet finished packing.

I admit a cleaning lady arrives Sunday, and if I have to pack them myself, we are sleeping in our new home!!!

Excuse me, I am trying to lure Shahar into my web.....

Yes the spider reference is intentional!

DesFIP -> RE: I Admit It I........ (10/7/2017 9:08:45 AM)

All I’m saying, is use the Chips Ahoy instead.
Better bait, better fish.
