ahhhhhhhhhh the good ole days of growing up before the 80's...... LOL

I'm sure some have seen this thread.. i'm gonna bring it back outta my archives.. sense we're taking a toll down memory lane here...

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE

1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

That was great!

Here's another thought--

Remember when music was played live at a concert you went to? The performers would actually sing a song themselves, and the music mattered--not how well you can dance or grind on stage. Soooo many of today's "hot" stars just get up on stage and lip synch (Ashley Simpson, Britney, etc, anyone?).

Oh (and this will probably get me flamed by someone...lol), remember when there was no rap (yay!)? Eminem was just a candy that melted in your mouth and not your hands.

mnottertail -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/14/2006 4:58:26 AM)

We used to go to dances in the summers. Balmoral was a hoppin joint.

I got to see the Beach Boys in Moscow Idaho. I wanted to go to one of the aisles and dance. She wouldn't because we would have been the only ones (I am sure others would have joined) but anyway, I enjoyed the Unbelievable Uglies and all that (a regionally famous group) but how often do you get to dance to the Beach Boys. So the good ol' days weren't always good. Isn't there a song with that line?)

LOL,
Ron

Dude, I really did have to walk a mile to school in -40 degrees and 6 or more feet of snow, and it really was uphill both ways. Not the whole way, but still. I almost shit myself when we moved southeast to Edmonton and got to take the school bus, and winter was suddenly 2 months shorter, and there was hadly any snow.

Outhouses were a bitch. The goddam wasps building hives all over inside in the summers insidious heat and mecilessly fuckin with you as you shat, and sitting down on them cold pine planks in the dead of winter in the middle of the night. No place to plug in no nintendos there..........

My grandfather had a cabin we used to go stay in for a few weeks every summer. No indoor plumbing of any kind. My older brother told me that rattlesnakes liked to live down in the hole of the outhouse, and that if I sat down, they'd bite my bum.

Mom could never understand why I was so terrified to go the the bathroom when we were there.

Worst part was, it was fruit-growing country and my mom would fill us full of apricots and cherries! Oh, the torture!

How come you guys got cable? [&o] All I got was two channels on a black and white TV that I was allowed to watch a half hour a day. *sigh* I feel ripped.

collegebeauty -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/14/2006 4:41:22 PM)

Hmmm... was just talkin' about cow-tipping as deviance in my criminology class. If anyone has a video and would like to post it on the net... I know a professor who would be tickled pink... and I know, I know, ya'll didn't have camcorders. :P

I LIKE pong, I play it all the time. And do you even know how much a working Atari costs these days???? Those suckers are highly prized items!

Outhouses, yup, have used those at camp... at least ya don't have to worry about the plumbing backin' up.

And caller ID and cell phones? Well, I think there's somethin' to be said for being unavailable once in a great while. Make people wait!

Anyway, just some perspective from a 20-something.

Forget X-Box. Forget Playstation. My Atari Flashback 2 is what I love to play the most these days!

Atari 2600, Intellivison, Colecovision...man, what great gaming consoles!

A couple more "feeling old" memories I had on the drive home--

Remember when it cost a dollar or less to see a brand new movie? A comic book was 25 cents? When your 2 dollar a week allowance really amounted to a lot?

Ron, I just find it really scary that there's another one like you running around.
Haha

I too was having the same thought. But, then being me, I went straight to the image of a threesome. Now that is an even scarier thought. Grin...kisses on all your pink part Ron.

Donald is absolutely nothing like me.

LOL, you goofs.

Yes, and with gas only a quarter a gallon I could drive my 63 Volkswagen bug forever for 2 bucks.

I spent more on my last car than my parents did on their first house.

You could getta slice for 25 cents?

You got soda out of vending machines in paper cups.

You actually got change back from your dollar at McDonalds?

You would rush to the record store to get the latest 45?

When a woman with pierced ears was considered to be of dubious morality?

When garter belts were common place necessities instead of erotic wear?

When a someone who was considered 'gay' was merely happy?

OMG... I would so kill .... to have another drive in movie theater around here... go swing before a movie starts... a short cartoon before hand too... sitting in lawn chairs in front of car... or as a kid laying on roof of car.... [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

unownedredhead -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/16/2006 11:13:40 PM)

I grew up in a little gas station/grocery store/soda shoppe my parents owned. I remember how mad my Dad was when he told me to paint the sign that gas was now $1 a gallon. I cannot imagine the heart attack he would have now if he could see what we pay for a litre of the stuff now. We had cats and dogs running around, never occured to anyone to get them fixed. We used to give a way kittens and puppies free with fill up! No cable and only three channels. We had a ladder againts the house so we could climb up on top of the roof to fix the antenna. I was up on the roof yelling how is that!!! by 8yrs old. Mom would kick us out to play on sunday and tell us not to come home until the street lights came on. I have actually ridden a cow to school, cleaned up chickens killed by weazles and eaten a raw egg still warm from a chickens ass. We had indoor plumbing but I had a friend who didn't, I have nervously stared at those same wasps while taking dump Ron, LOL

While the guys that took money for getting into the drive in were not whiz kids, they woulda figured out roof of the car.

We had to stuff the extras in the trunk, I think that's where low-riders came from.

How many sir? 2! (with 5 or 6 loud drunken bastards in the trunk.)
Hmmmmmmm gotta fix my muffler.........

We have one left here. It's a great place to go on a summer night. They show 3 movies so you can be there until almost dawn. We bring lawn chairs and congregate in the back row...sometimes get a little kinky during the last show, when most people have fallen asleep. LOL

what street lights? out in the country (no street lights) it was come home when it got too dark to see

I work in the telephone industry (relay operatr for hearing/speech impaired) and actually had a customer ask what a recording meant when it said "if you are using a rotary dial phone please stay on the line" - the customer actually had no clue what a rotary dial phone was!

anyone else remember when you could call someone in your local exchange by just dialing the last digit of the echnge plus the 4 final digits of the phone number?

or even when the phones were hard wired into the wall? no modular jack to plug in - and only one phone per house, no phone in every room

mnottertail -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/17/2006 12:23:20 PM)

REG(eant) 4886. I remember when the phone company would give you the ring back number. 410 it was for us once. Then after carterphones the guy would come in the house unwire it and take a butt-in and do a ring back. If he heard another phone ringing in the house hidden somewhere he threatened to pull the service. Kinda like stealing sattelite signals. Carterphone eventually had to go to court. TADA now you can put a phone in your bathroom, and I am sure people do, for me it is not that important.

LOL

I did a big Rochester/NYNEX/Bell Atlantic/Verizon gig and before had something to do with telephones and computers.

Ron

truesub4u -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/17/2006 12:25:34 PM)

Oh yes.. in rural NC even in the early 70's... last 4 digits was all it took to call locally. And yep.. no street lamps to see come on.. just run and hope not to run into any clothes lines... lmao

We never worried about it being too hot in the summers... if we got hot.. found local ponds, water hoses, neighbors didn't care as long as we shut them off when done.

Fri and Sat night... skating!!!!!!... $2 to get in at 5pm.. skate till midnight! And never worried about of legs were gonna work next day or not.. because we was up and running before legs remembered the skating the night before.. LOL

Nope.. there was no hunting down phones because kid left it off hook. There was no walking all over talking.. you stood and or sat in 1 spot and that spot only!

Have we really made steps up... or steps backwards?

I always ask my mom, if you... we.... had it so made.. why in the hell did they have to come along and change everything?????????????????

faithmcn -> RE: ~~Wanna Feel Old~~ (3/17/2006 7:26:19 PM)

OH man!!!!! I read through this and couldn't find one... NOT ONE!!! that I didn't agree with!!!!!! It sux getting older! I used to be the baby and now I'm the old biddy.. what's up with that?????? I get excited when my knees don't sound like rice krispies when I get up from a kneeling position (but then again.. my back will do it if my knees don't!)

I do not envy the next person who tells me I look OLDER than my age!!!!! Some nut at the office thought I was 15 years older than I was. GRRRRR
