Arpig -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/15/2009 6:05:16 PM)

I'm answering without reading the thread, so as to give an untainted first off opinion...
What do I think of Obama? A disappointment, a MAJOR disappointment. He talked a good game, sakes alive! can that man do that, he gives better speech than a $500 hooker gives head. But that's apparently all there is to it...words, inspiring, moving & impressive words, backed up with...well nothing...zip...nada...bupkiss.
Its been 10 months and the guy really hasn't done anything.

The Economy
He gets a D
The US recovery lags behind the rest of the world and pretty much all he has done is buy a stake in GM & Chrysler, that and the cash-for-clunkers deal. The major bail-outs (like it or not things would have been a Hell of a lot worse without them) were already in the works before he took office, so he can't even really claim them. He hasn't done much on this front, I can't recall any initiatives, major or minor. he's pretty much just marking time and hoping things don't get to bad before they turn around, he isn't even doing anything concrete about re-regulating the financial sector, which so obviously needs some serious regulating.

Health Care
He gets an F
He started out with a pretty lame-ass proposal and has progressively caved in on every point when challenged. WTF??? Why id he so determined to make the Republicans happy, they are never going to support him anyway. He is so obviously in the pockets of the Insurance industry its almost pathetic. He says what he wants to see in a bill, but he won't actually commit to any of it...its all negotiable..which means it will all get swept aside in the effort to rewrite the rules so as to maximize the profits of all concerned...well all except the consumers, they are gonna get screwed like never before.

Foreign Affairs
He gets a D
Again, nothing to report, well unless you count winning the Peace Prize (a joke of a whole other magnitude that is). With iran...well he's talking to them, but he doesn't seem to be saying anything, either that or he needs a better farsi interpreter because they aren't buying his empty platitudes. Same deal with N Korea...Shit man, the S Koreans are most at threat from their nuclear potential and they know how to deal with Pyongyang...don't give a fucking inch, extract maximum concessions for any damned thing you give them, If they don;t agree then tell them tough. They are starving, they are broke, they don't really have the choice, they have to pretty much go along, especially if Obama put some real pressure on China to lean on Kim & company. Europe..well this should have been a cake-walk, they were all ecstatic over his win, they loved the guy. And he's done what with all that good will? Why SFA of course, well other than continue to keep the French annoyed and to get Russia talking  klike they are in the big leagues again. Where's the united European response to Putin's bullying? Waiting for Uncle Sam to give them the go-ahead of course...and it looks like they will be waiting for a while.

Iran/Afghanistan
A D+
He is on the right track, trying to shift focus from Iran, but again he talked big, but seems afraid to actually do anything. Iran is worsening, Afghanistan is worsening, and Pakistan is teetering closer and closer to the edge. And all the while Obama does....you guessed it...nothing much.

Overall...he flunks. Unless he changes direction in a major way, I don't expect to see him in for a 2nd term.

ETA: and it seems to me that Guantanimo is still in business...wasn't that supposed to be dealt with right away?

'he has to take our guns away first, lets lower this level of debate to the toilet where it belongs, this is the american tradition. beerhalls and bullshit, and vituperation. '

Its been my experience that people that say things like 'they have to take away our guns first' are exactly the reactionary, paranoid 'we'll overthrow the government if they try to take our guns!!!' types are exactly the ones that shouldn't have guns. Not that i'm saying you are or anything. Its just not a good topic to get into. After all we don't want this place lowering to the level of those racist nutjob sites.

Anyways getting back to the topic at hand. So far i've seen Obama do nothing that indicates he is a good president or even a good politician. So far he just poses for the camera, gives speeches (see 'verbal handjobs to the american people') and get very little actually accomplished. Hes too inexperienced to be in the position he is in.

I wouldn't worry about that: most of these right leaning nutcases tend to be even more all talk and no walk than Obama is. There's thousands of Chuck Norrises for every Fred Cowan.

It's not like Prussian Blue or Toby Keith have shot anybody yet, after all.

$25 hookers give better head than $500. They have a lot more practice.

Speaking from experience willbeur? And before you get too bent out of shape let me be clear...I'm asking if you have much experience as a client of 25 $ hookers.....not if you have been one.[8|]

Mercnbeth -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/16/2009 1:59:32 PM)

You've got to hand it to him - He's got the 'bowing' down [sm=bowdown.gif] to other countries part perfect! [sm=rofl.gif]

- Hell, 7 + pages of thread about a social faux pas! I had to post a thought I had that amused the hell out of me.

[sm=donttaseme.gif] Come on now - it's funny!

Except the idea that without that stimulus, the financial system would have collapsed and instead of a very nasty recession, we might well have been looking at a complete economic collapse that would have triggered far worse than we are dealing with now.

But hey, if the guy had his shit together, he would have figured out how to unravel four decades of economic plundering and the destruction of the foundations of American stability without spending a dime and taken only two months to do it.

Once again, don't predict early retirement until you see who the other side puts up against him. If there is someone with better ideas, I'll go for him as will, hopefully the voters. So far, though, I haven't seen it.

"The idea" (collapse) is debatable. Big bank bankruptcy does not mean the financial operations would cease.  Besides, collapse idea is hard to sell to ordinary people with common sense.
I agree with the other side: GOP experiences chaos and it may not get their act together.

Hillwilliam -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 6:21:25 AM)

I didnt vote for him but I sincerely hope he can get the job done and get us out of this mess that Dubya got us into... Unfortunately I think he is in over his head.  (hopefully, I'm wrong about that last)

Moonhead -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 11:41:41 AM)

Anybody know if this story that he's ten times as many death threats as Bush did is true?

If he hasnt been to one, he probably knows a man, who knows the worlds top bankers, who have been to one. [;)]

slvemike4u -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 3:29:18 PM)

See right there Polite proves how tenuous the whole banking system was....the poor bastards had to settle for $25 dollar blow jobs.....[8|]

I have to agree with this one. Just another sign that the "signal to noise ratio" of this site continues to drop like a rock to the bottom of the Marianas Trench. I'm spending less and less time here, and more and more over on that "other" Fetish Life site, simply because shit like this wastes my time.

DCWoody -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 3:52:58 PM)

His foreign policy is pretty much godlike when inevitably contrasted to Bush, he seems to be getting a lot of stick in the us for the economy/deficit....which seems a little unfair as he was rather lumped with it, but he's where the buck stops now...also further conflict over healthcare reform, which boggles the mind.

Other than that, I have little idea what he's been up to. As a foreigner I guess I'm always going to mostly see his foreign policy, so from my pov what I mainly think of obama now that he's been here a while continues to be 'finally got rid of bush, thank fuck.'

housesub4you -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 3:56:33 PM)

Well, seeing what he was left with and a party who has stated publicly they will not support anything he does, he is doing a great job, my main problem is, they (Dems) still want to work with the GOP who on every chance has said HELL NO , so not against party lines.

So when will the voting public realize that what is best for the "party" is not best for themselves"

Do you even read a newspaper? The GOP has been locked out of virtually every important aspect of the Democrat bills, not allowed to contribute or amend them. They dont want to work with the GOP, they just want some GOP votes so they can claim that the fucking disaster they are creating was bipartisan.

slvemike4u -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/17/2009 9:39:26 PM)

And why should the GOP be allowed to amend a Democratic Congress's bills.
Stop me if you have heard this before......but elections have consequences. In this case that means the Democrats drive the bus for awhile...we will hold mid terms in 2010...and do it all up again in 2012....if your party can get its act together by then...maybe they can win back a seat at the table...if not....well tough.
Elections have consequences!

Yeah Mike, I think the republicans *want* the democrats to,..."drive the bus" for a little bit.[:)]

servantforuse -> RE: What do you think of Obama now that he has been in office awhile? (11/18/2009 5:50:32 PM)

If the unemployment rate is at or near 10% a year from now, the bus the dems are driving will crash. Harry Reid will be the driver and Nancy Pelosi will be riding shotgun..
