What if I say I will submit to you, but I have some hard limits?
If I don't want to send you my picture until I'm 100% sure I'm going to meet you because I prefer to be discreet, does that make me fake?

Or is it more transparent, like if I'm just using a profile, with a pic that isn't me, so I can get your bank account information, is that what you mean by fake?

Examples would help me understand...

PainfullyCurious, I consider there to be two different forms of fakes.

1. Obvious misrepresentations for manipulation. Several times a week, I get unsolicited cmails from women that claim they like my profile (with no specifics) and wanting to develop a lifelong relationship right then and there. They're never local and usually from out of the country. They always confuse D/s with kinky sex, and have a picture of an incredibly beautiful woman. They're almost always badly misspelled and hastily thrown together. They're attempts to get men enthralled enough to fork over money eventually.

I've also heard a variant where someone poses as someone they aren't with no plans of monetary gain, but instead to get their rocks off. The classic is the married man who poses as Lord UberDom online and strings a sub woman along by presenting himself as an available Dom when he is in fact unavailable and unwilling to meet in RL.

2. Someone who presents as a Dom or sub but isn't. This one is subjective - I've seen profiles of allegedly sub women who have a specific fantasy in mind and simply want a service Top to fill that. The Ask a Mistress forum is full of posts from Dommes who get contacts from male subs asking for that as well. In its purest form, a submissive is about service and pleasing a Dom.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are Doms who use the fake label to manipulate. When a sub refuses to do something they want, they accuse her of being a fake. As I said, this category is subjective and there's no clear differentiation between a sub who is all about themself, and a sub who will not perform a specific act.

In this case the distinction is clear, any sub female who doesn't put wanking material on her profile for the op to wank to is a fake. Obviously he's the only real person here and the rest of us are bots.

There are several kinds of "fakes"; which sort are you talking about? Fake as in not really what they claim to be (ie subs posing as doms, doms as subs, etc), fake as in not really into kink (in which case I would imagine that the contents of their cmail inbox in the 30 mins after posting their profile for the first time would cause them to scream, then take a fire axe to their computer, soonest) or fake as in scammers setting up to rip others off?

If it's the latter I know what you're referring to - the scammers tend to hit the first few buttons on the "create profile page" and leave it at that, presumably because a) it takes time to click stuff and b) as English often isn't their first language, I wonder sometimes if they've any idea what half of it means. The result is a profile stacked with vanilla interests, with nothing kink-related in there. I've noticed that very phenomena myself many, many times over - it's one of about 5 criteria I use when assessing a profile for "scam-ness".

In some cases I'm sure people simply don't wish to discuss their kinks with a wider audience until they've got to know the person, which I can understand, although it's not my way.

The reason a crowd will be turning up with torches and pitchforks is that the self-same question you asked tends to be asked roughly every 5 minutes around here, often by people who turn up, ask it, whinge about it, then fuck off, never to be seen again.

It's a sort of pervier version of the Bermuda Triangle.

i havent noticed any, but then i dont read profiles much either. but if they do exist then good luck to them really, at least theyre being up front about themselves.

the thang is, not everyone wants Ms or Ds, some just want the kink, so where else do they go in the hope of finding someone open to that sort of possibility.

I'm never called a fake. *sniff* I'm usually called a fat bitch who will die alone and unloved. Typically because I'm not swooning at a poorly spelled, very brief cmail. While I do like having questionable things whispered to me during play, for some reason receiving that in a cmail never does a thing for me. La sigh.

I don't put much about my own kinks in my profile. The very fact that I'm here means I'm not vanilla. So what I put in my profile are the other things I find interesting, in the hopes of finding someone who shares those, as well as the need for D/s. If anyone wants to plumb the depths of my depravity, they'll need to at least make an attempt to get to know me. If that makes me fake, so be it.

I could tie this in with my other career idea in another thread, to help HNGs and CHDWBs in writing cmails that won't get the blocked or ignored in the first ten seconds. It would be a charitable endeavour, and perhaps they'd stop being so annoying. I'd get rich, they might get laid, and it would all be a charity, and therefore tax-free.

I wonder if my lawyer would go for this logic.
