me too. With free handouts on election day so the morons who support legalization of drugs don't show up at the polls and continue to fuck the rest of us up.

Or we could hand out information on how marijuana helps patients going through chemotherapy.

I mean... unless you are pro-making little old ladies who have to take poisons into their bodies on a regular basis have one less pain control option. And oh the poor kids who have to spend their childhoods in hospital beds. Or fuck... just anyone unlucky enough to have a serious and painful medical condition.

Cause... yeah... let's give 'em really addictive pills that are easy to abuse and screw with your body as opposed to something whose biggest risk is lung cancer, the same problem with a legal substance.

Oh the logic...

Oh the strawmen. I never said anything about medical marijuana any more than I would prohibit doctors from using morphine.

....and can i assume from this that you are a teetotaller? Or just another hyprocrite?

I am a teetotaler. Someone else asked the person this was directed to if they were a recovering addict - well, I am a teetotaler for the most common reason, because I am in recovery. My children, otoh, are teetotalers because they are aware that addiction can be a genetic problem, and they have seen enough of its devastating effects in their extended family. (by the grace of God, I and their father were sober before they were born)

I support the legalization of drugs for a mydrid of reasons.
The war on drugs is costly and does not work. It is used as a law of political expedency when the powers that be wish to tighten the screws on someone they have no other reason to harrass, or when they can not legally back up their reasons. It is used as a fear club, to curtail the freedoms of law abiding citizens, because, if we don't, 'this will get worse.'
It is racist, age-ist and classist. the mind altering drug of choice of minorities, less well to do citizens and younger people is illegal, while the drug of choice of rich old white men is legal. Yes, there are users of both in every race and class, but the statistics still bear out that it is a racist law.
It is generally agreed by many or even most citizens that minor personal drug use is a 'victimless' and minor crime. Many respectible adults admit to doing it at some point in their lives and often see it as a normal and understandable youthful mistake. Yet the consequences of getting caught doing this while young can be life destroying. You can ruin your chances to get into the educational institution of your choice, become inelegable for student grants and loans, for job corpse, and for the military. at any age, you can lose your job for what you do on your off time.
It is socially stigmaed to the point that anyone who is known to be a drug user is at best an idiot and a loser, at worse dangerous and violent. this stigma is spread like poison into the polical arguement about the laws surrounding this issue - if you think that any drugs should be decrimalized, you are a druggie. So, let me repeat - I am sober for almost 3 decades, my sons have never had a drink or used a mind altering drug, and we believe that marajania, at the least, should be decriminalized.
One last reason - if my 12 year old daughter ( dear mods - fictional stick person. I do not have a child who is not past college age.) wishes to experiment with some beer or vodka, an idea I stenously suggest she should not do, she must first hang around a liquor store in a bad nieghborhood, not a great idea, that, until she finds someone who will buy her a beer or a bottle and then give it to her, for which they will probably want to be repaid with more then cash. good god. I think i said this is a bad idea. Having done so, she now, unfortunatly, has a hookup, in case she ever wants another beer, or possibly even a pack of cigerrettes.
OTOH, if my 12 year old daughter wishes to experiment with marajana - again, a very bad idea - she must find someone who sells the stuff on the street corner. Having done so, she now has a hookup, in case she ever wants to be meth or oxy.

Strawmen? If you feel those are strawmen arguements then you SHOULD oppose them.

You made one sweeping, snide comment and still have failed to address the hundred of legal ways that brilliant people ruin their lives and expect me to support keeping one substance illegal because it also ruins lives when it has tons of benfits. Legalize pot, ban white out. People should stop making typos.

I have thought about this for a while and it just occurred to me that I should be consistent. Concerning alcohol my view has always been that I should not be denied a drink just because other people can't handle their alcohol. And I think they should have the same policy on marijuana. Why should I be denied the right to smoke pot once in a while just because other people over do it to their detriment? Anyway, I just read this article in case anybody's interested.

Legalize marijuana for medical reasons

Not only have the Western Hemisphere Indians used this plant for pain, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma and some forms of mental illness, but it has been used by the ancient Egyptians, the very first human society.

Fourteen states have legalized marijuana and I believe that Wisconsin ought to do the same. Not only will the legalization of medical marijuana ease the tensions that a marijuana smoker feels, but it will create jobs, raise much-needed taxes for government spending and eradicate the cash we in Wisconsin spend on housing marijuana users and dealers in our jails and prisons.

I for one am sick (lol) of the idea that you have to be sick to enjoy pot and reap its benefits. I would never fake a sickness to get a cannabis card like some people in Cali I know. Not only is it an insult to people who actually use the drug because of an illness, its an insult to myself. I'm healthy. I like weed. It doesn't rule my life. I am a productive person. There is nothing wrong with me. Legalize it and tax it. Or make it legal to grow at least. Its fun to smoke AND its a great way to get young people interested in horticulture!

"interested in horticulture"...priceless.
Give me a pot head over a drunkard any time...the drunkard is far more likely to be a nasty prick.
p.s I've been "interested in horticulture "since 1974...and will remain so till my last.

I didnt make any snide comments. Whether or not people ruin their lives in other ways is irrelevant. If mj has "tons of benefits" that cannot be achieved in other ways, legalization still isnt the answer. Making it a legitimately regulated prescription drug is, not storefronts that receive their supplies primarily from Mexican cartels.

Lizbetbathory -> RE: First U.S. marijuana cafe opens in Portland | Reuters (11/16/2009 2:21:39 PM)

For me I dont smoke weed. I havent in a long time. My parants are hippies adn will be til the day they die! I have an extremely painful medical condition and would love to be able to not live in pain. Pot makes me not hurt but I dont like the other ways it makes me feel.
I know other people wit what I have who smoke weed and others who dont. The people who smoke have less side afects than those taing pain meds like methadone or opcy or morophine. Then again they eat more and in consequence some are more over weight which can be bad for what we have.

There are pros and cons to every arguement. If we live and let live with out imposing our veiws as fact then the world will be a better place!
People are going to wonder wat it is I have... It is called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome I have type 4 vascular with severe hypermobility
