ORIGINAL: Anarrus ahh ok..gotcha If I were a tax dodger or a birther my feelings might be hurt. I'm sure King George called our founding fathers much much worse. I'm sure many of those back when our nation was founded thought of Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Adams, Franklin, et al as fraud artists too. It's easy to sit back smugly and dismissively in judgment of others. It's especially easy when we don't agree with them. It's even easier still when we don't want to rock the boat or go against the grain of popular and politically "safe" mainstream thought. Patriotism comes in many forms, two of those are to question and to challenge. The organization running the event, We the People Foundation, is under a permanent injunction over their fraudulent tax protestor lies. They are also the ones who bought full page birther ads in the Chicago Tribune last December. So it is being run by tax dodgers and birthers which is why it is being ignored. You might want to make sure you have your facts straight next time. As this statement comes only a week after Veteran's Day let me make a special point of responding to you calling the scum involved patriots. It is not patriotic to lie and deceive to enrich yourself at the expense of your fellow citizens. It is not patriotic to attempt to claim the mantle of the founding fathers to push lies about there being no law requiring the payment of income tax and about the birth place of the President. It seems you want to argue based on tax dodgers and birthers. I won't be lead there by you or anyone, but if I was we might find ourselves on the same side of the coin. I believe in paying my taxes and I even voted for Obama (gasp), though I considered other choices. You just might be preaching to the choir. "You might want to make sure you have your facts straight next time." Next time you tell me to get my facts straight, you might want dbl check to make sure I claimed something as fact..or did it just feel good to type that? quote:
ORIGINAL: DomKen I said these liars who make a living selling fraudulent tax evasion schemes to others are not patriots. I said that their attempt to coopt the mantle of the founders to legitimize their lies was not patriotic. Both statements are quite clearly true. Truth is a rather elusive concept, much argued and debated about , but hardly ever proven absolutely. It's an easy thing to attack. You're welcome to your assessment and version of the truth, but I'd remind you that they are to theirs also, no matter how much you hate or disagree with them. If you care to label them as liars and the antithesis of patriots, then that's your right also, a right of yours which I believe most of them would defend and possibly to their death. I originally started this thread as a poke at the mainstream media, and whether liberal or conservative, how narrow the scope is of what they chose to cover. In the ideals of liberalism I practice, there's room for examining and perhaps gaining a new bit of knowledge or undertsanding even from those whose opinions I may despise or think foolhardy. But I guess that's too much to ask of you. Anarrus [sm=goodpost.gif]
