Fluke -> unfamiliar abbreviation (11/17/2009 7:52:26 PM)

I've seen in posts here people sometimes refer to their kids as UMs.
I have no idea what it stands for and can't find anything that seems to fit and it has been bothering me. I'm simply curious :)

So, what does it stand for?

Unmentionable

Uber ("M" something).

I believe it used to be against the terms of service to ever mention children in any context here on the forums, and some people coined that term as a way of talking about their kids and whatnot without getting taken out and shot. It's no longer against the TOS to discuss them in a non-sexual context, but a lot of people still follow the old custom. That's all you're seeing.

Thanks for explaining :)

Erm....I don't recall anything like that ever having been in ths tos. If it was no wonder it was removed. That could have had some legal problems if they tried to enforce it....

I don't specifically recall ever seeing it there myself, but there are so many people who seem to think it was I'm inclined to think it might have been. I know that on one other popular BDSM site, it was strictly prohibited to mention younguns in any context whatsoever, and I do wonder sometimes if some people just forgot which site is which.

Underage minors.  [8|]

GreedyTop -> RE: unfamiliar abbreviation (11/17/2009 10:54:30 PM)

in the past, many people were modspanked about mentioning their children, IIRC, and posts were pulled.

I had one my earliest posts pulled because I had asked why those who had decided NOT to have children had made that decision...

WyldHrt -> RE: unfamiliar abbreviation (11/17/2009 11:05:07 PM)

Boi and Panda got it. It used to be against the rules to mention children in any context on the boards, so some folks would use the acronym "UM", meaning "unmentionables".

pahunkboy -> RE: unfamiliar abbreviation (11/17/2009 11:47:36 PM)

Did that tho change?  I thought it remained.

GreedyTop -> RE: unfamiliar abbreviation (11/17/2009 11:58:15 PM)

I thnk they've relaxed a bit.. talking about friends and families kids in a NON SEXUAL manner seems to be ok, now.

Check the forum guidelines, at the top of the forum's main page -

quote:

Subjects which are unacceptable regardless of circumstance include, but are not limited to - minors engaged in sexual activities, bestiality, incest, necrophilia, snuff and criminal activities. Any other questions of acceptability will be determined based on the content of the given essay.

FR

I used to think it was meant jokingly, but found out that was incorrect. However things have laxed up a bit.

I should save this so I don't have to look for the fucking thing all the time, but as of february 2008 this was ModeratorEleven's interpretation (and that for all intents and purposes is what you will live and die by out here) of the TOS concerning:

children, children, children, minors, minors, minors and all that.

It may or may not have eased up from there. But you are safe that far.
