rhpaw -> Whose a masochist? (11/18/2009 11:24:21 AM)

Would i be a masochist if i was only excited by a mistress who is sadistic and has to push the limits higher each time to get arousal. So i only get aroused by her feelings and only have a good friendship otherwise?

breatheasone -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/18/2009 11:27:12 AM)

i'm not entirely sure what you are saying....but i was always under the impression if you like or get excited by pain you are to some extent a masochist ...

SlaveSimone -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/18/2009 11:42:27 AM)

 I'm making a lot of assumptions here so please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds as if you're looking for the power exchange to stay in the bedroom. If this is the case then you would be what I would describe as a bottom. The definition of a masochist is  a person who derives sexual pleasure from pain, if its just the reaction of your partner that you feed on then technically you're not a masochist. In my personal experience being unclear in how you define your self, or defining your self to another as something you are not, is a good way to get your self in really sticky, and particularly unpleasant situations. That being said, take some time to research terms carefully before you start using them to describe your self. This thread is a good start, but for more rigid term such as masochist a dictionary is also a good starting point.

Good luck,

Simone

lol okay that cracked me up... but really I have to agree with SlaveSimone, I've always considered a masochist someone who likes the pain and finds it sexually exciting.

Just a technicality, there are many types of masochists, the most common is the emotional masochist who goes looking for emotional pain.

The idea of deriving pleasure from pain is a tricky one. It isn't the regular kind of pleasure that someone might get from say, getting their genitals stimulated. And often times, the pain has to be contextualised. I don't know many masochists who would find it sexually stimulating to get their arm broken in a rollerblading accident.

I believe that sexual masochism is about having a need fulfilled by taking the pain that is inflicted. That pain is mentally converted to pleasure on many levels. On a sensory level if done in the right amounts but a sensual sadist like myself. On an emotional level, as many of the boys I play with feel proud that they can take what I dish out, wearing their welts like badges of honour. And there are certainly more.

So my question to the OP is, what do you get out of masochism. Or if you aren't sure, what do you think you might?

LadyA, you're absolutely right, I probably should have left out the  sexual  part, as I know that there are a lot of people out there who derive plenty of other kinds of  pleasure from pain.

lovingpet -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/18/2009 4:15:43 PM)

Even the emotional pain can be sexually arousing. My partner plays in this area with me and it is right up there with other more physically based sensations in bring forth high arousal.

I don't think what the OP is describing is masochism. I think it is a form of submission that requires him to take pain as service to his dominant regardless of his enjoyment of it because she DOES derive pleasure from it. For some sadists, a submissive actually enjoying what they do to them actually detracts from their pleasure in the experience. They want the person to suffer...for them. They don't want it to be fun. That is what it sounds like to me. I could be mistaken as the OP is not terribly clear.

you'd be a masochist if you get enjoyment from pain =]

That is a really simple vision of it. I recommend that you go a few posts up and read down two or three.

aldompdx -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/20/2009 11:14:12 AM)

You would be a true masochist if you enjoyed what you describe, and choose a partner who denies that to you.
If you get what you want, and feel good about it, where is the hurt and abuse of masochism?

kanina -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/20/2009 11:38:47 AM)

I consider myself a masochist because i like pain, physical pain and emotional pain, also consider humilliation a form of masochism at least to me because in a way its painfull...

LPslittleclip -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/21/2009 8:28:42 AM)

if it is only during your play time then its more a power exchange type of a dynamic. if you get aroused from the application of pain then your a massochist.

kanina -> RE: Whose a masochist? (11/21/2009 8:45:35 AM)

its during play time...

but i think that there is there a difference between a masochism during  a play time (wich excites me) and a masochism that the masochist can aplie to himself and doesn´t need a Dom, for example (wich is not my case)... aren´t they both masochism?  only depending in context?
