Federal stimulus money paid to non-existent Pennsylvania congressional districts

Full Story Here

"Five Pennsylvania congressional districts that don't exist received a combined $12.6 million in federal stimulus money that created or saved 32.2 jobs, according to the Web site the Obama administration created to track how stimulus money is spent.

Pennsylvania has 19 congressional districts, numbered 1 through 19. But according to Recovery.gov, Pennsylvania's nonexistent 00 Congressional District received $6.7 million that helped create or save 7 jobs, the biggest allocation to a phantom district in this state. Stimulus money went to the imaginary 21st, 23rd, 65th and 96th districts in Pennsylvania, the Web site said."

******************

Now I realize the issue of raw data having to be scrubbed and corrected but there is a fine line between scrubbing and grooming for effect. This is just another example of why I do not get a warm fuzzy feeling about the Feds taking over health care.

Obsess... err, discuss.[;)]

There were 50 non-existent congressional districts reporting job growth because of the stimulus money. I'm not sure if this is transparency or change.??

Seems like a more accurate headline would be 'people fill in random bollocks on boring paperwork'

Just imagine a magician reading you that article, and he's pointing to the smoke and mirrors, and before you know it....Voila! There's nothing left. *applause*

More like "Acorn hired to report jobs saved data".

I suspect there might be a shred or two of truth in that view.  There might also be a few million bucks that did get vanished, so I'm hoping it gets a good, hard, look.

I think you misspelled "billion"

A million here, a million there, pretty soon you are talking about real money.

I dont think my locale is getting any...  and yet- they are redoing the park- and I guess that comes from some type of stimulous...

No doubt Obama stimulus has been ineffective because of bad design. Somebody (a congressman) proposed US needs to loose two jobs (Geither and Summers) in order to create jobs.

I looked up my rural zip code. A few million dollars going to various school districts (including some $300,000 to mine).

I'm OK with that. It had to come from somewhere, it helps with the state/taxpayer fiscal mess, and it goes into the local economy.
