I am currently a cardholder for Red Cross certification in Basic First Aid, CPR, and AED for adults, children, and infants. Does anyone else believe that being certified in these areas should be promoted within the lifestlye to ensure play is safer for all those involved?

I think it is something that should be promoted for everybody, regardless of lifestyle.

Absolutely. It would definitely be a plus for playing with anyone, and should be required if there is edgeplay involved.

Yes. Master and I are also instructors (well, we are EMTs too) and offer to teach official and non official classes at lifestyle events when we can.

Yes, we both hold current first aid certificates and we have had to use what we have learnt a couple of times.

I think basic first aid should be a mandatory course in high school. ..(and should be a must for expectant parents!!)

I am certified in first aid and cpr. It was a requirement since I'm a brownie leader.
I did tell the man that he needs to get cpr certified in case that breath play ever backfires. At least I'd have some chance...

Actually, to be pendantic, PLAY wouldn't be safer - the ill effects - if any, would be lessened if everyone was familiar with basic first aid.

.... and whoever Aileen happens to be with needs to know rescue breathing incase she chokes on the hamster and guinea pig bones.

Since we don't do any risk play, it isn't essential for us in terms of play. We ought to know just in general though.

I am certified, not because of my lifestyle choices but because I would rather be able to do something than stand around and watch someone die before my eyes.

I actually teach a range of first aid courses in schools around Belfast. The medical school sends students out to any local school that will have us. Basic first aid for 12 year olds, CPR for 15 year olds, and "teddy hospital" for primary school kids. Pretty much all the local schools here have signed up for it now, unfortunately there are only enough volunteers for Belfast, not the whole of NI.
