I'll admit that, when I'm seriously getting my sub on, it's a little counter-intuitive to ask to be hurt more. Then again, my wife (and currently my only top) isn't big on inflicting or recieving pain, so there's a slight communication breakdown there anyway. Depending on what kind of scene you're in, it might be helpful to establish some sort of signal, like a "counter-safeword" to indicate that you'd like things to go a bit faster and harder. This is particularly true if your scene involves a lot of roleplay - such a signal allows you to communicate your needs without breaking character. Then again, my wife and I skew so heavily towards active roleplay that half the time we just pantomime tying each other up and don't bother with the ropes.
