Here's the thing I don't get about Palin.  With the exception of quitting as governor (And yes that should have ended ANY possibility of a political career from that time on.) how is she any less competent that Joe Biden?  I mean I completely understand not wanting her be so close to the presidency, but is anyone comfortable with Biden being just as close?

I've worked directly with our VPOTUS, and he has all of the intelligence and original thought of Jeff Dunham's Peanut.

Now that you mention it, I can't think of any VPs I've been particularly interested in seeing President.

Johnson, I suppose, but I was a kid, and had no reasons other than I knew who he was.

Well, that's pretty much my point.  To hear people talk, Palin is the stupidest creature to ever befoul the Earth with her presence.  As far as I can tell, Biden is every bit as stupid/insane as she's accused of being.  And yet it would have been the horror of horrors to have her as VP but he's okay.  As I said, I don't get it.

Well if nothing else, Palin proves for once and all that intelligence is no determinant for political success...as long as you look good on TV.

Which is quite timely given that our President has proven once and for all that intelligence is no determinant for good decision making, as long you can sell your ideas with soaring rhetoric, outright deceit, and with the help of a teleprompter.

But that has no bearing here because it's not Obama who made those comments, it was Palin. God help us here in Canada if this ever happens. Yes we have long waiting lists but essentially our Healthcare works.

At least Biden seems to be intelligent enough to know when to keep his mouth shut. I dont recall him discussing any exorcisms either, come to think of it.

You honestly think Joe Biden knows when to keep his mouth shut?  The guy that called Obama "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." and talked about needing an Indian accent to go into a 7-11 or Dunkin' Donuts?

In which case, the fact that he'll shut up when told to puts him a fair bit ahead of Palin, I'd have thought. It appears that she couldn't shut up talking ridiculous crap if her life depended on it. (Then there's the "not abandoning posts he's been elected to" thing that's already been mentioned.)

1. He doesnt shut up when he's told. He had to be hidden from the campaign at times to avoid the damage he could do.
2. SP DID shut up when she was told. The people advising the campaign were (inadvertently) complicit in her character asassination by trying to force her into a McCain mold.

Is it a campaign anymore? Is she answering to anyone anymore? She wrote the book to respond to what she wasn't allowed to during the campaign.

How about just looking at the bottom line... which country with their system has the longer average lifespan.

Then how much this difference is worth in money...hint...think of your children when answering this question.

The US has the longest average life expectancy after adjusting for the higher rate of infant deaths, which in turn is attributable to more at risk pregancies and better pre-natal care.

OMG he says, "how can better pre-natal care lead to a higher infant death rate, he's crazy." Hint: for similar reasons to those that cause a population with a longer lifespan to have much higher costs of medical care.

I have just ran a search...in every from birth to death link that I could find Canada is far ahead of the US... from birth to death includes infant deaths... If you like let’s post links and see which comes off as being closer to the truth.

Reading comprehension problem? I said AFTER ADJUSTING FOR THE HIGHER RATE OF INFANT DEATHS.

Edit: I should also have clarified that it is life expectancies adjusted for mortality due to non-natural causes, primarily murder and accidents...ie life expectancies that are attributable to health care quality.

Gobbledygook my friend pure and simple... Most every country with a national healthcare system has a longer life expectancy... show me your proof...saying something means nothing.

Just statistics about life expectancy...nothing else. Life expectance is just that... infant deaths do not need to be adjusted.

You are wrong. Life expectancies are measured from different ages, the most common other than l.e. at birth is l.e. from age 5 in order to exclude the distortions of infant mortality, distortions caused by better pre-natal care. And in a health care discussion deaths from murder and accident most certainly need to be adjusted for or the results are not focused on the quality of health care.
