Since the death of Dad, I had to move downstairs and intend to rent the upstairs, however I am quite picky. Even about where it is advertised. Thing is I was sick and not able to do much. Some who helped out during that time have fallen on hard times so now to reciprocate, I have boarders.

So last night on the phone my sister says that me having certain people here is somehow an imposition on her. Surprise surprise, not everybody likes each other. While I didn't hang up on her, I made it clear that I was in no mood to discuss it any further at the time. When it comes time I think I got a pretty good earful for her.

"If we are to presume that we can tell one another who to live with and hang around with, first of all you wouldn't have lived with my asshole buddy Bob who abused you, who I told you to stay away from yet you stayed with him for years. Further, you would have never MARRIED Tim, who wrecked your credit and made you feel like shit because he was mosre in love with his fucking Harley than he ever could be with a person".

Further, she is not going to help and has "threatened" to sign the house totally over to me. Now really I am not in all that bad of a basket when it comes to money, but in the last week I've had to have two radiators, a water pump and other assorted stuff changed on my car. It cut into my bill money. Those who know me know my plans, and sometime next year my cfredit score is going to drop from the 700s down to zero. However I will have lots of toys and other goodies, and an extra $1,000 at least in my pocket every month.

So doomsday approaches and I am going to execute a check for about $12,000 to transfer a balance and pocket the payment. This is a low interest, but only for about six months. Should be enough.

In the end I will be like many people in this country, no credit. However with that money in my pocket, I'll have no need for credit. The only thing on my mind is to not lose the house. I might get it done with the help of a very good lawyer, which I have. There is a chance I could fail. Always be ready to lose when you play any game, which is what life is pretty much right ?

Thus the title of the thread, Beware freedom.

I do have a concept of freedom. Sure you can grow a bunch of pot, sure you can do alot of things. But when your baby is dying you better find the money for a doctor, hitch up the buggy and get the kid down there, there is no 911 service. The road is dirt, and very bumpy. If your crops die, you and your livestock die, you don't have food stamps or a food card, aptly street named the "grub stub" in these parts. When robbers come to your house, you can't call anyone, you have to shoot them and bury the bodies as the cops are very far away.

Really true freedom can be hard to handle. That means self reliance, not proving you make under a certain amount of money in a year to "qualify" for a grub stub or free medical care. If you depend on anyone for anything you are not free. The whole concept starts in your mind and heart, not in government documents, even the Constitution. That has been proven quite effectively in this, and the latter part of the twentieth century.

Actually that debunked forgery I mention from time to time contains the lie that "Freedom is an illusion". Of course it's a lie, you don't think a forger would put a single fact in such a politically incorrect document now would he ?

But think about it, even if you depend on noone else, you still have to depend on yourself. Is that free ? Are you still not a slave to your own needs and desires ?

I remember an old Star Trek with Kirk in a jail with this huge neandrethal looking dude and says "...if we are to regain our freedom" and the hulk over there says "....that's a holy word, you shall not speak it". I am starting to think the guy was right.

If indeed freedom is an illusion and we see it that way, then any mention of freedom is a red herring. It is nothing more than letting you smell a pretty flowwer as the slip the chains of bondage on you, in a non-consentual context. Like you are special so you get the gold plated handcuffs. Your cage is eloquently appointed in it's fine guilding.

If freedom is an illusion, or even if it is not, maybe we need to consider carefully whether or not we really want it. Hard to decide when it is almost impossible to define. Want to be free of taxes ? OK there are no roads on which to drive, nor traffic lights or anything. Want to be free from rent or a mortgage payment ? Find you a nice bridge under which to live. Oh wait, there are no bridges remember ?

None of us, not a single one has ever lived even for one second totally free. If you really ponder carefully what freedom is, it is as scary as death. Actual freedom means independence. That means you make an axe and fell some trees to build a house, not call the lumber company and order the materials on a credit card. It means finding a way to bake bread rather than getting a grub stub and having the taxpayer pay for your loaf of Wonderbread. It also means growing and grinding your own grain, finding the yeast (yes you can do that), feeding the hogs or whatever. The whole nine yards.

In other words without self sufficiency there is no freedom. Given sufficient thought, it is scarier than death. Even if you are gainfully employed and able to buy what you need and want, that makes you dependent on a long chain from manufacturing to transportation to delivery or retail sales. This is all supported by the government and they run on taxes. So to do away with that is to do away with so much of the modern convenience of society that one wonders if it is really worth it.

This verbal intercourse with my sinister was not really meant to be the crux of this post, it just made me think about it. If I am to make my own decisions of course I have to live with them. Any sibling discourse should not matter. It really doesn't mean much monetarily, but more in running and legwork.

Now I guess I could count on her if I only lived and hung around with approved people. That's about as free as being stuck in a 55 gallon drum.

Get my point ?
