Made up the trail mix...1 part M&Ms(medium bag), 2 parts raisins and 2 parts pecans. got it ready in the gallon bag.

Its better than getting cheese danishes and chocolate muffins...

Speaking of which..I got to find that receipe book so I can remember how to make the muffins.

Shar,
The above snack doesn't sound much healthier than your other choices but you have to stop picking fattening foods that are camaflouged as "healthy" foods. In your last couple of posts you said something like, "At least I'm not eating.................".
You said the trail mix was in a "gallon bag"? Wtf? A GALLON?

So you eat a GALLON of M&M's & pecans & consider that better than a cheese danish?
Eat fruit if you need sweets or get a couple of hard peppermints to suck on for your sugar fix. Eat crunchy vegetables.

This rationalizing is not helping you. Sure, you may not eat the gallon in one day but how long does it take you to eat it all? Do you graze throughout the day on the trail mix?  Those types of snacks are meant to be consumed by the 1/4 cup weekly, not handfuls throughout the day.

Sorry if I sound harsh but you're constantly complaining about your weight trying to blame it on a medical condition when in reality that's probably a very minor contributor. I'm seeing your diet to be the major contributor.

In becoming a non smoker 41 days ago I am starting to gain weight. Im trying to stick with fruits & veggies while driving which is tough. I'm full & still keep eating. Help & suggestions needed PLEASE

You're eating when full because (I'm guessing) your bored. Being in the cab of the truck for hours on end w/nothing to do but drive can get to anyone. You eat to fill the hours.  I have nothing but respect for the truck drivers so I hope I don't sound like I'm condemning your chosen profession by stating that you're bored.

If time allows take multiple breaks & enjoy a nice brisk walk. If you pass by a high school or college run around the track 4-8 times then reward yourself w/some high protein food & beverage. Put in your favorite cd or tape & sing at the top of your voice. Bring a friend to you can chat away the hours until you reach your destination then have a nice meal to celebrate.

I'm sorry I don't have much to offer as advise.[&o]

In all actuality even 3 of these would probably be better than your gallon of trail mix Shahar.

I agree with VP on much of what she has said.

But in the future if you want the chocolate get the dark chocolate, try almonds instead of pecans.  Also, you could get yourself one of those little cooler bags and put stuff like string cheese, fruits, almonds, veggies etc to snack on, you could cut up apples and pears (put a slice of lemon in the bag so the don't turn brown), and some peanut butter, or shredded chicken etc.

If you want your trail mix as VP said that is not good to graze on the gallon sized bag, but instead try putting it in those really little 1/4 bags.

Cut down on the gallon size bag and start portioning out your stuff.

Shar...there are trail mixes made with dehydrated fruits that are excellent. I know dehydrated fruits are a little pricey, but the mix is so filling you will not need to buy more than a bag or two.

i have heard a smoker gains an average of ten pounds when they quit because of the metabolism slowing down...even if increased eating is not an issue.
I imagine it frustrates the hell out of you, but ten extra pounds will not kill you. The cigarettes will.

You will eventually get the munching under control, the weight will come off, and you will be much healthier and happier.

Congratulations on quitting. You are very strong!!

Ok, here goes.  Man I genuinely hope this doesn't come off as whinning or sounding like I'm looking for pity or making excuses.

I have been ill for a while now.  Basically, my bodies natural defenses are attacking my blood vessels, lungs, heart and other soft-tissue.  Some days, I can't get out of bed.  Other days, it is exhausting just maintaining housework.  I say this, so that when I say "woohoo, I made it down the stairs to get the mail." It doesn't sound quite so pathetic and lame.  I'm happy if I can feel good enough to get out and do a little grocery shopping.  Even something as simple as driving to visit family for a day will sometimes put me in bed for 3 days.  As you can imagine.  Extended periods of bed rest, illness and pain haven't made weightloss easy.

Losing weight isn't an option, it is pretty much a matter of do or die.    Which, you'd think would be some pretty good incentive, but some days just making it through the day is enough of a struggle and I don't have the energy to fight the battle of the bulge too.

Anyway, I'm joining this little group of do wellers because I hope that if I make myself transparent and accountable somewhere - it will help me find a little extra initiative.  Plus, I don't know a damn thing about eating healthy.   I thought I did, but my last attempt to grocery shop for a week of healthy food had me feeling pretty stupid and out of my depth.

Yesterday I ate :

breakfast - 1 can of V8 low sodium juice (70 calories, no fat, no cholesterol)
Snack - 1 orange
Lunch - Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich
Snack - 1 orange, can of V8
Dinner - 1 Ham and cheese sandwich (4 slices of ham, 2 slices of bread, 2 slices of cheese0
Snack - 1 orange, can of v8

I'm hoping this is good, it is about as healthy eating as I get.

I seldom feel up to cooking, so simple meals that aren't processed tips would be appreciated.  It is way too easy to just order pizza, which I'm seriously trying to avoid doing.

Exercise tips that I can do at home, that won't put me in bed for 3 days from over doing it would be appreciated.

PS - I'm under a physicians care, and know all the disclaimers about following my specialists advise.  I trust them, follow their recommendations but they aren't with me daily.  I'm hoping that having some accountability here will help.

So...any help for me?

WinD

this sounds like what i was dealing with when my bleeding ulcers were at their worst. Unless you have experienced it firsthand, it is nearly impossible for someone to understand that getting out of bed in the morning and making coffee requires several rest periods, and lifting the coffee cup to your lips takes effort that you simply do not have. The exhaustion leads to depression, which adds to the exhaustion, which increases the depression...and the cycle does not stop.

I wish i could do more for you than offer understanding. Please stay on this thread...you are among friends here.

What the "Walking Chaos" said, Wyn.

Plus it sounds like you're doing everything you can for a healthy diet.
Tell us what exercises you're doing.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/11/2010 7:43:17 AM)

Thanks Holly, I do appreciate that.

VP:  So far, my only exercise is making it down and up the stairs to get my mail.  And chasing after my 2 year old grandson who comes over every weekend [:D]  I have cable and On Demand - which has free exercise programs.  Maybe my grandson and I can try flopping and stumbling around without any rhythm to some music.  I think you hell'th freaks call it aerobics.

VirginPotty -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/11/2010 7:53:26 AM)

Lol, yes that would be aerobics! But then again so would going up/down the steps.
Anything that increases your heart rate is aerobic [:D]
That sounds like alot to me. Just check Linnea's posts from Feb thru present. All she did was climb up/down the steps plus watch her diet & she lost 50lbs!

Exercising w/your grandson is a great idea! I did that w/mine when he was on the track team & now my younger grandums are exercising in daycare & love showing me what they've learned & love it even more when I join in the fun w/them [:D]

Just did 20 minutes on my HealthRider at light exertion and barely broke a sweat.  Two weeks ago, I could barely do 5 minutes without falling over.  Woo hoo!  Time to do another 20 minutes.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/11/2010 7:38:12 PM)

The gallon baggie will last me about 2 weeks.  When I got down here in Austin, Lizard and I had a couple of handfuls (usually I am bringing brownies or honey buns).  I can buy the mountain trail mix for $5 dollars at walmart and it would have salt in it.  My personal mix has no salt and plenty of pecans.  The only time I eat almonds is when I order Chinese (they hurt my jaw anyway).

Lizard's BF was to have dinner with us, but he went home early.  Bo offered me fried chicken but I turn it down.  I am still trying to watch the triglycerides.  I will go mall walking tomorrow after getting my disability bus pass.

I got news about my SIL.  Will bring up that thread in a minute.

ShaharThorne -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/12/2010 8:58:16 AM)

Walked 2 miles today.  Came across a steep hill and I was able to walk up it without the usual stabbing pain in my right hip..YEA!!!

I did not go to the mall because...I left my cc at the apartment...I blame the 1:  grey hairs  2:  blonde hairs 3:  senior moment  4: fibro moment 5: all of the above with a cherry on top...and chocolate sauce...

sirsholly -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/12/2010 10:38:22 AM)

i hope your SIL is ok...

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (5/12/2010 10:49:28 AM)

I picked up the Biggest Loser Cookbook and BL Family Cookbook.  If anyone is interested in hearing about my taste tests, I'm happy to share.
