When American Astronauts went to space they soon discovered that their regular ink pens failed to work due to the lack of gravity.

NASA's top scientists spent many hours and millions of dollars developing a state of the art pen which could work in the extreme conditions in space.

The Russians, when faced with the same problem, gave their astronauts a pencil.
