Does anyone have any tips and tricks on getting rid of a cold?

I was sick about a month or so ago and it lasted for about a week and a half. I'm usually pretty good about getting over an illness pretty good, but it took forever to recover last time and I would like to try to avoid that again.

Besides OJ and bed rest, anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks :D

Is it possible it wasn't just a cold? That it left you with a sinus infection, ear infection, bronchitis etc?  Because a cold shouldn't hang around that long, unfortunately the secondary infections do.

You know, I never thought of that. It could be quite possible.

Considering how long it took me to kick the last illness and then to be sick so soon again after, a secondary infection makes sense.

Off to the clinic for me lol

Going to the clinic is a good idea at this point - in general, a combination of vitamin C and zinc is going to be helpful.

My nana used to say that a cold takes 7 days coming, 7 days staying and 7 days leaving. There could be a lot of reasons why it took so long to recover last time. Perhaps you didn't rest as much as you thought you did and resumed normal activity too quickly. Perhaps it did cause another infection. Perhaps it wasn't a cold at all since there are more than just a few with symptoms similar to a cold.

There have been studies that say chicken soup does have a positive effect on a cold. There have been studies that say it doesn't. There is no treatment to get you over a cold faster, only things to help alleviate the symptoms. Some people swear by their chiropractor when they have a cold, others accupuncture. I'm not saying none of them work, or any of them work. More that the list for how to beat the common cold is an exceptionally long one. Try googling it and see how many hits you get.
