newbie91 -> Messages from un-activated profiles (12/19/2009 11:31:27 AM)

Im not sure what to think of this or if this is the correct place to ask this...

I got a few messages from someone on collarme who seamed legit at first, but after asking for lots of pictures and my email I got suspicious... especially as this person has an inactive profile and I quote "Note: This user does not have an active profile".

What should I do? The user has an un-activated profile so I know nothing about the person and when I asked for details about her I got a reply saying to do what I was told and she will contact me via MSN.

Sounds dodgey to me...

Up to you who you talk to.

Having a non active profile and sending people mail isn't against any rules I know of.

True, im just getting suspicious as the profile isnt active and I am being given no info yet asked for so much.

Tell her she has no right to tell you what to do, she does not own you.  If she wants more pics then she needs to send you her pics and details about her.  My guess is that this is a fake person.

Do what your conscience tells you but personally I'd just ignore the person.

There are only limited things which mail can be reported for in terms of scammers asking for money or abusive emails. If you reported it and nothing happened it would not be the end of the world so report it if you feel the urge.

Lockit -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/19/2009 11:45:41 AM)

It doesn't matter if this person is dodgy or not. You are uncomfortable and you need to listen to that discomfort. It isn't like you will lose the person of your dreams if you reject what someone insists on. You may stand up for what you believe is being true to who you are and your warning signs of discomfort and only lose a cyber troll... which is most likey the case here.

Don't doubt yourself. Compromize is good in established relationships... but in this... keep your pictures... don't answer your msn and go with your gut.

barelynangel -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/19/2009 11:48:28 AM)

I have a inactive profile and i send messages to people all the time. It means i TALK to them and they TALK to me. Most ask why i have it hidden and a little about me -- so i tell them. I usually c&p my profile to them.

However, i don't ask for pics or personal information until such time we get to know each other and i don't give same for the same reason.

I am not sure why this is a discussion issue lol you don't know someone either based on what they right in their profile, they could easily LIE in their profile. So i wouldn't put more weight on people who have active profiles versus inactive on it being MORE fishy, i would say if you feel uncomfortable then you have the ability to not speak to them, not give pics or information.

So you would feel this person were MORE legit if they did the same thing but had a profile up saying things?

Active profile or not, why would you send pictures and your personal email address to someone you don't even know, let alone take "orders" from "her"

I know people come here for cyber and things like that, but you have to realize that this is more than just fantasy land...so many scammers out there you need to be careful who you send any kind of info to.

As far as your question...follow your instincts, if it doesn't feel right, then ignore them and more on

subboi3382 -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/28/2009 12:09:33 AM)

doesn't seem like a good idea

i get messages from inactive profiles a lot (just got one), usually before i even get to respond. what does that mean?

tsatske -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/28/2009 12:14:51 AM)

when I get a message from someone, I always go to the profile when I get their first message. I have a rule for myself that I answer all emails until someone is just so rude or annoying they need to be blocked, and I answer ALL first emails, so.... but when they have no active profile, my response is generally 'why no active profile?'

Also, when somene asks me for a chat ID or outside email, I write them and tell that sites like this are often used to harvest email addresses, so I do not give my email to anyone till I have had a leangthy corrospondance on the site we met on, first.

Just a couple of suggestions.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/28/2009 10:41:04 AM)

If someone from the forums with an inactive profile, like Angel messages me, I'm fine with it. I welcome it because I know them. But if some other person does it, I am completely suspicious. Not that I wont talk to them, but i want proof that they usually wont deliver.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Messages from un-activated profiles (12/28/2009 2:39:01 PM)

I wouldn't send her my social security number, bank account number, address or real name.

just saying.[:D]
