pahunkboy -> "Why are stocks in this sector at a 52-week high if this legislation is such a blow to their profits (12/20/2009 7:29:37 PM)

Dylan Rattigan on MSNBC recently gave Rep. Wassersman-Schulz (D-Fl) a hard time about the health care package. He disputed her contention the bill was a big win for consumers. He wanted to know why the stock prices for Big Insurers (e.g.m, Aetna, Cigna, Wellpoint, United Health) shot up if this was such a big loss for them. Unfortunately, he was so exercised on the point, he didn't give her a chance to address the question. It's an important question. Asked another way, the question is "Why are stocks in this sector at a 52-week high if this legislation is such a blow to their profits?" That's worth investigating. Follow the money and things get real clear real fast./snip

30 million new subscribers required to by insurance by law might be a clue.

Maybe stock market gamblers are betting on the 5 lobbyists per legislator?

It's a sucker rally that's why. The only way for the professionals to make money in this business is to manipulate the stock market into going up, then sell to suckers right before they know it's about to drop. Then buy low again after it dropped. It's nothing but a legalized pyramid scheme.

Besides, healthcare had nothing to do with the mortgage collapse. Obama claims it will reduce bankruptcies, but if you are living in reality, when you declare bankruptcy they can't take your house anyway unless you aren't paying  on it any more. So bankrutpcy frees up even more of your money to pay for your house. This healthcare bill will actually increase bankruptcies, since they are going to fine people $4500 or so at the end of the year if they don't buy health insurance. So people who could afford their mortage before will  have to come up with another $350 per month or more for a family. Bottom-line, it will cause more mortgage delinquences.

Funny, Ive never heard any Republicans campaign on cleaning out lobbyists and then turned around and brought them into his administration.

Face it, Obama is even more of a compulsive liar than Clinton.

You're right, seldom see Republicans in favor of doing away with corruption.

My memory is Obama said he'd clean the lobbyists from appointed jobs in his administration. I believe there have been 2 waivers on appointing ex lobbyists out of thousands of position... under Bush it was over half the positions. I don't see Obama as a liar at all, not as liberal or effective as I had hoped but doing as honest job as we've had in a long while..... maybe Truman.

2? LMAO. He appointed 12 in his first 2 weeks and not out of "thousands of positions", in what are probably the top 50 positions in his administration.

You dont think hes a liar?

Will accept Federal financing for his campaign
Would not accept campaign money from lobbyists
No Lobbyists in his administration
Will veto any bill with pork in it
Transparency
No tax increases on the middle class
All bills posted on the internet before they are voted on
Health care debate will be broadcast on C-Span
Will "reach across the aisle"

Thats just off the top of my head. And Im not even counting Gitmo, he may actually have meant to do that, he was just too naive to realize that it was a bad idea. All of the above he had control over and violated them anyway. That, my friend, is a liar.

I don't know but a stock I own is going up too.
Windstream (WIN) a telephone co, was up 2.4% yesterday. Hell of a nice yield too at 9.20%.

Brain -> RE: "Why are stocks in this sector at a 52-week high if this legislation is such a blow to their profits (12/22/2009 8:54:00 AM)

Of course, it's not a blow to their profits, it's quite the opposite. Isn't it amazing how they lie, lie and lie some more just so they can do whatever they want. Most of the politicians have no respect for the voters. And most politicians are in it for themselves, it has nothing to do with public service.

popeye1250 -> RE: "Why are stocks in this sector at a 52-week high if this legislation is such a blow to their profits (12/23/2009 12:09:19 AM)

Well, (WIN) is up again yesterday by .15 per share and .6 cents in after hours trading!

Why should they have respect for the voters? They keep getting re-elected.

They'll learn some respect when the voters actually clean house and put representatives in place who aren't already part of the establishment.

Subfever, nope! Cramer loves this stock, thinks it'll be a "double" from $10 a share.
It closed up again today another 14 cents to $11.48 in abreviated trading!
