masterdor -> CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 10:56:40 AM)

I've no idea where to put this, and as my first post no doubt will get shot down. For what it's worth however, there are couple of features on CM that I find lacking. So here are my suggestions to address them. Whether they are sensible, echoed or feasible I leave to others to decide.

1) One thing I have wished for is the ability to save message threads. By that I mean saving the whole sequence of mails and their replies, as is listed when one startes to reply to a message. Would there be no way to save that thread to an email address? At present it is only possible, so far as I can see, to save each individual message.

2) Would it be possible to save the above similarly under the individual's profile, in a similar way to personal notes? So if I have had a mail conversation with abc, the entire thread is saved, and visible only to me when I view that profile, just like personal notes. Similarly abc will see the thread when they look at my profile

3) Would it be possible to view a message correctly formatted wherever it is viewed? So far as I can tell, paragraphs etc are only visible once one starts replying to a message. It makes reading a longish message very hard, and can at times change the apparent sense of a message. Surely paragraphing is a basic formatting that even plain text supports!

Fire away!

When you reply to a message, the entire previous thread is visible below the reply window. Mark and copy this previous thread and paste it in a word processor file.

I seem to recall that there is a notes window attached to each profile. Perhaps you can paste the copied thread in that window?

Simply insert a white line between paragraphs. It is a standard web and e-mail custom.

Thank you.

Re 1+2, I was rather hoping for an automatic history system. It was always open to me to copy and past, and I have on occasion, but it is longwinded and flawed.

Re 3, I do so. The result is erratic, as I have just confirmed by messaging myself a test mail.

Nevertheless, assuming I am wrong or outside the general thinking of others, a "suggestions" forum seems like a good idea? Or not?!

Thank you again for your reply.

I have seen CM pick up on suggestions in the forums, I have seen them disregard and ignore suggestions in the forums, I have seen them say "That won't happen", and I have seen them go their own way.

One is more likely to successfully predict the behaviour of the stock markets than that of CM.

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:19:49 AM)

I can imagine! With a suggestions board however, they at least wouldn't have to hunt around looking for suggestions to ignore!

Since no one pays for this site, most of the suggestions are going to be disgarded for lack of financial benefit to the owners.Whatever short commings this site has, it is still free and I'd just as soon see it stay that way

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:26:20 AM)

Oh and while I'm at it, another one they definitely will want to ignore:

4) a kind of panic button, one that redraws the page with tame pictures, or removes them. It doesn't have to remove the text, it's the pics that are instantly embarrassing if you're caught on site by your kids/spouse/employer (delete as appropriate). I currently use the "no images" button on Opera, but thats tiny, difficult to hit in a hurry, and messes up some of the links (sent mail messages for example) and formatting.

Rule -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:30:32 AM)

That is easily solved: if visiting CM is something that you ought not do, then do not frequent CM.

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:34:49 AM)

Thanks Acer49.

Not sure I buy that one though. I had rather thought all the adverts were there for more than simply decorative reasons. Also the more useable the message system, the more people will use it, and so stay viewing and at times clicking those lucrative ads. The alternative, which I know many revert to, is to switch to MSN once a degree of contact is established, which takes you away from the ads entirely.

Surely it cannot be that there is no point in making a site as good as it can be? An aspiration to mediocrity? How sad.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:36:14 AM)

You can always use the print option on your toolbar..and save the print as an *.xps file...tedious, but effective to an extent, I guess.

You have the option to not show the avatar pics on the message board.  The option to change is somewhere in your message board profile account settings.

Keep in mind, the site is free to its members.

As someone who owns and administrates several sites and forums elsewhere - it is absolutely impossible to implement everything that is suggested.  Also, there's the reality that changes to a site, no matter how seemingly inconsequential, can have disastrous effects, than most usually are aware of.  If it isn't actually broke....the prudent course is to not try and fix it!

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:37:26 AM)

Ho ho. I'll leave others to deal with the merits of that reply!

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 11:38:41 AM)

(sorry - that last re Rule's comment)

Is that not true?

No Matter. I do see some of the force of WinsomeDefiance's comments. And, I am additionally aware that I am singlehandedly defending what had seemed useful suggestions. If they are not echoed by others, then there is little point in my pursuing them, or even less point given the tenor of responses.

That said, the "suggestions board" suggestion has not as yet been shot down!?

masterdor -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 1:33:22 PM)

Someone add some support? Or at least some other suggestions?!

pahunkboy -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 3:12:08 PM)

Well- since you asked-

One of my biggest goals for the site-

is to have

Mod 11 come and tie me up and tickle me with a large purple feather-

---  while yodeling

Jeffff -> RE: CollarMe site suggestions (12/26/2009 3:30:10 PM)

The yodeling is just too far dude, really.

Sicko!
