Also, when I refer to the boys on the docks, that isn't his company property sweetie, that is the public dock where the men (and women) bring in their catch, and while probably questionable at best, it certainly isn't anything to do with his business, it just makes the guys have an easier time choosing who to sell their product to and buy their bait and gear from, the average joe or the attractive cool chick that buys them a beer on Fridays and every once in a blue moon has a smoke with them after business hours *not* on my company property, guess who had the advantage? Yeah me. Oh and the fact that we pay more per pound and pay it daily. In case you hadn't heard, lobstering and the whole marine industry in Maine is a multi million dollar business so you can get prissy about my snatch all you want, I'll continue to make money by skill, marketing, and if it takes a little sex appeal and hanging out for an hour or two on Friday afternoons with the hardest working men I know, well fuck me, I didn't create that concept. Besides, I thought it was us feminists that were all uptight and frigid?

This has to be one of the most hypocritical things I've ever read. I read the feminist thread, and was appalled by the viciousness of the "catfighting" and the hateful comments that were thrown back and forth at women by women. One of the comments that had me shaking my head in disbelief was made towards Elisabella by you Aynne, regarding her relating how debilitating and painful her menstrual cycle could be. I couldn't believe that one woman could be so insensitive to the fact that another woman could suffer through serious menstrual conditions such as dysmenorrhea, PCOS, and PMDD to name a few. Instead of taunting or jeering such a condition, you might instead be grateful that evidently you've never had to suffer through excessively painful or physically debilitating periods.

I am fairly new to these boards, and wasn't planning on posting in this thread...but the hypocrisy here is just mindboggling to me. In this posting, you seem to suggest that the ends justify whatever means to make the sale. Yet, in the same post, you refer to yourself as a feminist. Personally, I've always held the belief that the key concept of feminism was to promote the value of equal pay and opportunity for equal work and merit. Your boasting of using "sex appeal" to give you an edge with the men you are competing with completely belies and contradicts this point in my opinion. It is just really ironic that the argument over the cheerleading issue was being made that it promotes the message to girls that their "worth" or "value" is based on their looks or their bodies.

I happen to be an educator and worked to put myself through college to earn a degree. I was hired for my job as a teacher based on my credentials and ability. I guess I misunderstood the premises of feminism and didn't realize it meant that I should use my looks to give me a competitive edge over a man, rather than focusing on my intelligence and merit.

Oh, and I suppose that posturing as an "uber bitch" (based on how many times you've used that expression) and pointing a gun at a camera is supposed to convey "I am woman, hear me roar?"  I don't think that is how Helen Reddy intended it.

Yeah you are new here if that shocked and appalled you. You obviously didn't choose to read her comments to me, and I am so over caring about it I can't be bothered to play cut and paste right now. The gun at  the camera pic was taken by my Man he thought it was hot and was a joking respone to the psssst....your gun isn't loaded comment made to me by Loki last night. It just happened to be perfect that I had that picture handy and ready to go. It was a joke, but still, it was meant to convey that I do back up wha I say.

Now, on  to Ellisabella, who has called me a dumbfuck, a wierdofuck, and wished the curse of horrible menopause on me. That's just creepy and wierd, but obviously you didn't see those comments and hey that's fine with me. Just don't play "Oh mean evil Aynne" and ignore the rest of it. I mean you can be onesided if you want to be, but it tends to get called out pretty fast around here.

I think ELisabella is a bright young woman, I just don't agree with her and we usually argue. I doubt either of us will be scarred for life over it.

Thank you for that. I know I went off on Aynne in that thread, but at the time I was in bed taking slightly above recommend doses of panadol with codeine and hurting to sit up, and to be told that I was a 'drama queen' for something I was going through at the time just really set me off.

Part of me feels like I want to apologize but we've had enough conversations since then that the part of me that does want to apologize is being overriden by the part of me that doesn't want to apologize to her.

Hmm. How about we just acknowledge that we are very different women, and stop the sniping bullshit, both sides of it, and debate without namecalling and you don't owe me an apology, just perhaps we could be both be a bit more civil or at least not so quick to attack without giving the posts of each other actual consideration and taking them for what they are? It's better than this.

there was not logic behind "women and children first". It is based on a remark of 1 captain.
Noble though.

This is just a guess, but I would think that it's based on the idea that if you save the children, you save the future, mixed in with a little chivalry.

- LA
Its complicated - a lot of it has to do with male:female ratios and economics in high density populations - i.e., monogyny preserves the male:female ratios on a roughly one to one basis, and enforcing feminine chastity provides paternity assurances to males - i.e., they are assured the children they are providing for, devoting their time and resources to, and who will inherit whatever they accumulate are their actual genetic progeny - Chivalry is compensation for keeping women on a short leash, since we aren't an essentially monogamous species.

In d/s, it;'s just more literal, lol, but it accomplishes much the same thing, i.e., they are both ways of compensating for the resulting boredom or restlessness of social confinement, it just depends on what you find more gratifying.

No, in fact they will not cross water, even a tiny stream - but they do have centripetal defensive responses to threats to the group, in which Alpha males are the front line of defense.

well, the old high and dry has actually been sorta debunked. They abhor the shit but will deal with it given dire circumstances, or a really hawt chimpanzee pussy on the other side of the brook.

But lets look at the life lesson we can take from this, it is how the world works. In two posts:

Ron you are brilliant.
No, Ron you are a stupid cunt.

You get all spectrums of the rainbow out here!!!!!!!

(LOL, I know, I am just kidding, guy.)

xssve -> RE: Misogyny and BDSM (12/31/2009 7:56:20 AM)

All of your reproductive politics revolves around the biological fact that women only ovulate once a month, but men have to turn over their semen about every Three days, after which it's motility declines rapidly, number One.

Number Two, females bear almost the entire brunt of reproductive costs, male reproductive costs are negligible, merely semen.

The rest is about women finding men to help defray their reproductive costs, men protecting their investments.

I never said it was pretty, but that's how it is - the rest is about finding ways to keep it interesting while we try to get away with shit.

It's just later when I look back on it rationally that I feel like an idiot.

I believe the appropriate term is "human," not "idiot."

Which is not to say that it's productive, but being perfectly disconnected from a topic all the time isn't a particularly human state of affairs. I've generally made an effort to detach and stay focused on the rational aspects of debating, however, there's been several occasions where I've failed miserably. That probably holds for anyone that has ever attempted to be objective about things in a debate on a topic they cared about.

Idiots exist, but humanity alone is enough to account for most idiocy.

Do not needlessly multiply negative traits, and all that.

Including your own.

Health,
al-Aswad.

xssve -> RE: Misogyny and BDSM (12/31/2009 8:09:02 AM)

For instance: the 10:1 ratio in terms of reproductive cycles is the reason polygyny comes and goes, but polyandry remains popular and stable throughout history, albeit, mostly in the form of prostitution.

Mercifully, reproductive costs aside, the female sex drive is generally as strong as the male, all things being equal, and they too receive benefits from non-reproductive social sexuality that optimizes their fertility - nature has no use for benchwarmers.

Still, reproductive politics remains a thorny social issue - it really doesn't matter much if a woman past menopause fucks everything that wears pants for example, there are no reproductive costs to consider, she's doing reproducing women a favor by optimizing motility of the men, and probably optimizing her own health (assuming proper risk assessment to identify and control potential disease vectors) and extending her lifespan, increasing her potential contributions to her children and grandchildren, and increasing their reproductive fitness  - but try telling that to anybody.

Firstly, I doubt all this is going throught the captain's head when the boat is sinking! /sarcasm

Secondly, you write "Chivalry is compensation for keeping women on a short leash, since we aren't an essentially monogamous species." You gotta be kidding me!!!

Chivalry is a man being the best man he can be to his woman, and by extension showing respect to other women, regarless of whether he leans towards submission or dominance. It is about showing respect and class. All men that I know personally know that are chivalrous do so out of love and respect of women.

The patriarchy is just shit men came up with to do while women were caught up in their drama.

Nice example of misogyny - if I look at history, I see that a huge percentage of the 'drama' is a male creation.

Why is that hypocritical? Haven't we already determined that some people love that stuff? I am SO not getting your points, if they have a point.
