How could you go completely covert if you've got that kind of money?

Anything they might use their wealth towards seems kind of flashy.

But then seeing as they didn't marry commoners and Germany was a series of Dukedoms and Principalities with a surplus of royal blood while England was one country - then there was very little option but to marry a German (from the Protestant parts).

Thinking about it you're right - the EU is basically a German ran European common market - so yeah they're still running wild round Europe. It's in the blood though ain't it - the Vandals/the Goths - Bismarck and his 'Iron and Blood' ideas. Just one merry procession into conquest.
