LafayetteLady -> Today is Independence Day! (1/5/2010 8:45:06 PM)

[sm=injured.gif] Yes, today, for me, is Independence Day! The cast was removed this afternoon [sm=hyper.gif] I now have a lovely boot that makes me two inches taller (on one side, lol), but I am WALKING! I am [sm=lame.gif] NO MORE! I so looked forward to this day, and to walking on two feet again and I have to admit, it freaking hurts like hell! But I don't care, I was able to go downstairs to the kitchen, heat some soup and bring it back upstairs without anyone helping me. I went to the store carried my purchases all by myself to the register! [sm=cheerleader.gif]

I still have at least a month of physical therapy, but that's ok. There is so much dry and dead skin on my foot and leg, it's really gross, but now I can scratch it all away, hee hee. I've already taken my PedEgg to my narly looking heel and scraped some away.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm excited that tomorrow I get to [sm=mop.gif] and lots of [sm=laundry.gif]. I can shower (as soon as I wash some towels, for some reason the kid didn't see a need to do those) AND shave my legs (the hair is long enough on them that I can see it without my glasses, and that's pretty bad.

Granted, it will be a while before I can [sm=skiprope.gif] but it won't be long before I can [sm=dancer.gif] again!

All just in time for the next big snow storm they are predicting this weekend. No sleigh riding or skiing for me, but when I go outside, there won't be frozen toes either!

Congrats!

Possibly a bit too much detail, but hey!

Yea well, after a month of falling up the stairs, barely being able to leave the house or shower properly, I'm really excited. I just went to the store by myself and got a cup of hot chocolate that I was able to bring home and I am now enjoying. Haven't been able to do that, lol.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Today is Independence Day! (1/6/2010 6:26:01 PM)

Unless I go out into the big bad world, then I am sometimes a triped so that I can lean on the one crutch when the pain gets to be too much or I get overtired.

But I got so much done today!

Damn, wouldn't that be nice. Actually, the place where I will be going for PT is understaffed, so now I'm on a waiting list!

As someone who did the new boot style for 3 months (the older styles never had the higher sole) find a shoe that helps evens out the high difference.

I thought wearing a normal shoe would be enough to fix the height difference... turns out it wasn't enough.  Totally screwed up my knee and my hip because of it.  Ankle healed so well after surgery I didn't need physical therapy.  Hip & knee? Not so much.[&o]

LafayetteLady -> RE: Today is Independence Day! (1/6/2010 11:43:34 PM)

Funny you should mention this! I made a point of telling the resident that fitted the boot (yea I know, not much "fitting" required) that I was going to break out a pair of boots that I had with a 2" inch heel so I didn't walk so much like Quasimoto. She told me that was a bad idea. I have no intention of listening. I already have back and knee problems (of course on the side that DIDN'T have surgery) and I'm not intending to make it worse.

Thanks for the confirmation that it would likely lead to more problems.

BrunetteContessa -> RE: Today is Independence Day! (1/7/2010 10:35:33 AM)

Yeah, they recommended I wear something with a larger and thicker sole like hiking boots when I got mine.  I don't own hiking boots.... and trying to buy a pair when you can't walk without pain wasn't a stellar idea in my mind at the time.

When I had the issues afterward they just looked at me and said "well didn't we tell you to buy shoes with a thick soles?"  Why the orthododic makers had to decide to redesign like they did I have no idea.   The rocking sole drove me nuts.

Good luck with the leg!

Nah, I'm still moving kind of slow. But I'm cooking, that was the thing that was killing me the most. Made a delicious beef stew for today.
