I say live and let live and let live and let live.

Reincarnation is coming back.

Lilly......

People believe any old shit........human beings have a capacity for delusion that knows no bounds.......

And....I know......'to each their own'.....but surely energy would be better invested in something concrete and attainable? Like a fried egg sandwich or something or other........these grand ideas are a load of old bollocks because we need to delude ourselves that there's something bigger going on or something more worthy than our mundane existence.....but then again the fact we do it suggests we need it so go ahead.....

I seem to remember reading somewhere that hindus believe reincarnation does not discriminate on species......one century you're a duck.....the next you're a giraffe.......the next you're a human. That sounds far more interesting than going back four hundred years to find my sole purpose in life was to pray to god and exercise demons from pigs in Somerset.

True for many who believe in reincarnation.

I am not even sure that is what past life regression would be about, surely it is an interesting look into someones mind subconsciously without necessarily believing that it is anything to do with real past lives.

A fair few people have said that I should put my money into something more noble (though a fired egg sandwich is a far more likely expenditure) I do not see how it is a bigger waste to spend money on that than it would be buying a book or a ticket to a theme park if life is based in experience (as I think it is) then this would be experience.

Nailing my stones to the floor would be an experience but I'm not convinced the pros outweigh the cons.

But I agree with you......we have to go through our experiences to get where we're going.....take absolutely no notice of my half-baked 'doing' rather than 'feeling' philosophy.

If it helps....

Plato would have said go for it....use your imagination...

Aristotle wouldn't have been so keen on the idea.....

As with anyone.....you have to follow your nose.....and whether or not you get something out of it is by the by....can't win em all.

In the absence of concrete knowledge it's got to be said that it's better to have some sort of belief than to be completely clueless.

LadyEllen -> RE: Past life regression (1/9/2010 7:31:09 AM)

There seems to be a lot of confusion here about reincarnation. There isnt a single person, or living thing, living today that ever lived a previous life as themself; every single person alive today is unique, yet made up of parts that have lived before in other combinations as unique living things. The notion of personal reincarnation is an arrogance of mankind, based on the notion that surely we cannot die.

All it would require for a past life memory to come to light would be for a person to be born who is made up of some certain parts that were previously in combination. Such a memory does not indicate that Mr Smith was someone else previously but that Mr Smith has certain parts in his personal combination that were once in combination in another. Thus it may be that past life memories are not universal phenomena experienced by all, and where they are found may be clearer or more vague.

Reincarnation does not depend on being "good" or "evil" either. It is a natural process bereft of morality that determines how the parts of one are dissolved and reconstituted in a new living being. The only influence we might have over this relates to one certain part of us and we may only exert actual control in certain very special circumstances. The achievement of such control relies entirely on an understanding of certain concepts that are quite alien to ordinary thinking, including an understanding of time that most will never grasp, including most of those who adhere to religions that attempt to provide access to such understandings but do not contain those understandings in themselves.

thornhappy -> RE: Past life regression (1/9/2010 8:05:48 AM)

One reason I'm skeptical of past-life regression is that back in the '80s, everyone's past was Celtic; 10 years or so later, it was Native American.

Musicmystery -> RE: Past life regression (1/9/2010 8:23:11 AM)

But that's all in the past now.

I see your point and it's a good one but you know if you have an open mind together with your beliefs...

I strongly believe in reincarnation but wouldn't see past life regression as a way of proving its existence or anything other than satiating curiosity.

LadyEllen makes a point that we are all individuals, and so are our lives.

When I die what I did in 1983 isn't going to suddenly become any more important than it is today. It's gone, no longer exists, just as tomorrow as yet for me doesn't exist.

I am alive, I am breathing, life is here, now, today, this moment in time. Here to share ideas, happiness, ideas, love.

It's not 'I was', nor is it 'I will be'.

I am.

Just like the pixels on your screen.

Here.

Why do people assume they will be reincarnated forward in time?[:D]

We have to bear in mind the great recycling centre in the sky is outside of space and time. Therefore you could be recycled next week and become Fred Flintstone apparently.

Although more likely past life regression involves some kind of early life (and later repressed) hero worship of a famous figure from history; a person that formed an early idea in your head as to who you wanted to take after. Thus when you get hypnotised or whatever you bring back all these memories you forgot you had and the only way for your consciousness to cope with all those apparently unfamiliar memories is to create an entirely new identity for them because it doesn't recognise how they can fit in with anything you are now.

My vision of Hell is to be reincarnated having Batley, West Yorkshire as your birthplace the second time round.

Or perhaps Dagenham. Nobody could be that evil.

Musicmystery -> RE: Past life regression (1/9/2010 9:47:32 AM)

I have enough trouble when my present life regresses...
