LaTigresse -> Your Parlour...............lair, office, favourite flop spot, whatever... (1/10/2010 8:11:36 AM)

So I am sitting here procrastinating. Should be scanning old family photos. Should be cleaning and re-organizing the pantry. Should be cleaning the spare bedroom aka my closet. You get the idea. The other day we, well some of us, were giving a nameless person a hard time for calling their little computer corner a parlour. It sure didn't bare any resemblance to my great grandmother's parlour. Talk about an awesome house, that was it. Turn of the century farmhouse. Lots of dark wood work. Built in, glass fronted, book cases in one room. Built in leaded glass doors, china cabinets in another. Huge dark columns separating a living room from the dining room and yes, beautiful wooden pocket doors with a formal parlour behind them. A room for all their best things, largely unused but always perfect. A room a 5 yo little girl must be on her best behaviour to enter. That house still exists, but I know without a doubt it bares no resemblance to the one I remember. I cannot even want to drive past the farm I remember. Gone is the fence around the yard, the hollyhocks blooming along it, junk cars and broken plastic children's toys take their place. The other day, in discussing that corner 'parlour' I began to wonder. What do our little parlours look like. I mean, I know my favourite space to read and type. I mentioned my comfy old leather sofa. I sit here when I have time, feet on the coffee table, coffee and or water, a dog or two, perhaps the cat fighting the computer for lap space. I Occasionally watch a large hawk or this time of year, a bald eagle soar out the windows. Mine isn't a parlour, just a corner of a living/dining/kitchen room in a humble little house on a hill. But it is my little slice of heaven. So I thought, it would be fun to share, and hopefully coax others to also. Here is my parlour. (if I can resize it to load....)
