I heard about this on the radio and found this article. You can see how much airplay this got cause I just heard about it a year later?!

It discusses a study that followed students in abstinence only sex education programs to see how well those programs do. It found that those who pledged abstinence had STD rates at rates and in fact engaged in more anal and oral sex than those with safer sex education programs.

I'm not surprised frankly that people who are taught abstinence only sex education would find "outs" for their sexual energy by turning to other sexual practices. The sex drive in adolesences is strong and I think we do them and the rest of society damage when we ignore that fact and think it will just go away if we tell them to say "no," think of God, or find a hobbie.

I feel its important to teach them firstly to wait while you can,- but- if you do then use this etc. From the time My son was 10 I told him about sex mainly std's (The ones I know) how they cant all be seen and most definetly repeatedly said to use protection. I felt good when I was told that he is not looking to be active. At the age of 13 he has already oportunitys to be active, and has turned them down. Once again I have been blessed. ~BK~

May I say that it sounds like you are a great parent, one who has taken the time to get to know his child and to tell his child about the reality of the choices ahead of him.
