MasterK13 -> A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 11:52:36 AM)

Is every one entitled to do one stupid and completely insane idea as long as they realize this was a mistake, I cant believe I was that dumb, or the ever popular "I know what I was feeling but was I thinking?" as long as they learn from it and never even thimk of doing it again? I tried to befriend/romance a girl online that I knew in the real world that I never really got the chance to be honest about my feelings thats the gist of it.

DesFIP -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 11:56:57 AM)

I don't know about entitled. Are you asking if you should get a free pass from your partner for doing something unforgivable? Because the answer to that is no. Some things cannot be forgiven.

If you're asking if everyone will do something totally stupid even after being warned against it, the answer is yes. Doesn't mean the cops won't arrest you, your boss won't fire you, your partner won't leave you.

MasterK13 -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 12:00:54 PM)

Im refering to an act of immaturity. Nothing illegal but very stupid.

RedMagic1 -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 12:01:27 PM)

Get drunk and have unprotected sex with 10 strangers in a single day, as long as you're physically healthy and not cheating on anyone?  Sure, why not.  Dig up a stop sign in the middle of the night, so someone thinks they have the right of way in an intersection and gets killed, while putting others in the hospital?  Not so much.

My answer: it depends on whether your stupidity damages other people.

Lucylastic -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 12:02:33 PM)

If it doesnt inovlve hurting someone innocent, yes
But then again, Ive done enough daft and stoopid stuff in my life, I may not be the best person to listen to.
If you hurt someone..then you need to be asking them
Good luck

Not sure why you are asking such a generic question. How can anyone advise you unless they know what you did and what happened as a result.

Lockit -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 12:04:31 PM)

You are eighteen... you are going to do immature things most likely. How that effects you or others depends. Is it okay... I don't know. What are you really talking about? You might make something like that clear so that you can really get answers that might apply.

JonnieBoy -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 12:18:27 PM)

I'm 44 ... doing insane and (in the opinion of others) incredibly juvenile things has kept me, for years, feeling youthful and keen.

I agree with sexyred1 ... it really does depend on what you mean ... eg : I was dumb to jump off a 30 ft bridge and even before I hit the water I realised it was a mistake ... I won't be doing it again (technical x sports miscalculation).    [sm=evil.gif][sm=evil.gif][sm=evil.gif]. ... (It was still a good rush)                            I guess we're not on the same subject ?

Clarify  your question and maybe you'll get better input.

So ... any chance of letting us in on the "mystery" faux pas ?

If you refer to the idea of calling your self for Master at 18 you probably survive the roar of laugther from the older crowd.
If you refer to screewing your best friends gf, you actually find he might one day thank you for it, so he didn't invest to much in that relationship. Thou he probably be pretty pissed of about it at the moment.
If you refer to missing your chance with a hot bird, so she went somewhere else, you will stil be wondering why you where that stupid when you get to my age. (Just like the anglers, the big one was the one that got away).
If you refer to driving like your surname was Schumacher, thanks your blessing that you realised it allready now and slow a bit down.
Just remember do as daddy tells you, not what he did himself in those days.

littlewonder -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/10/2010 3:36:55 PM)

Ok so you tried to befriend a girl online that you know in person and she turned you down? Is that what happened? I'm trying to figure out what you typed.

If that's all you've done...get used to it. It won't be the first or last time I'm sure that you're ever turned down. Nothing at all immature about that. It's all part of growing up and the dating process.

Just try to learn from it. Did she say why she turned you down? What could you have done differently? Learn from your mistakes and understand you're human. These things happen.

Now as for the general question of should one be forgiven for a mistake and allowed to be seen as just a stupid mistake...depends on the mistake.

We are entitled to do lots of stupid things K13.  It's right there in the human contract.  Learn from it, try not to do the same stupid thing again (at least not without a new theoretical approach), and move on.  Unless you now have the law looking for you, the only forgiveness you need is your own.

That's as close to granting absolution as I get.  Bless you, my son, now go and sin some more.

Huh?

It's really hard trying to figure out what you are talking about here. Its SEEMS as though there was this girl that you knew and were attracted to in real life, but you never managed to get the balls to tell her. Then you found her profile on line somewhere and contacted her with your interest that way without letting her know it was you. Then she found out and got pissed?

If that is what you are saying, then at 18 years old, it wasn't that big of a mistake. It was pretty much something an 18 year old would do. If you really like the girl, apologize for not having the guts to do it in person and hope that she will at least give you a chance to be her friend. If not, then learn from it and move on.

Really, you will do much stupider things in your life as you have more experiences.

That has got to be the most original pickup line I've ever heard.

Do let me know if it works, won't you?

If that's the dumbest thing you ever do in your life, it'll go in the books as a life well-lived.

You're not telling us much here, but my hunch is the damage that was done comes down to either you think you made a fool of yourself, or you think you hurt her. If you think you hurt her, maybe there's some way you can offer a sincere apology to make her feel better. If you're worried you look silly to her; I dunno... maybe talk to her? An honest, heartfelt baring of the soul? It's hard to say with the limited information you offer. All I can say is, if you didn't hurt her feelings, then no real harm done. Maybe 6 months from now the two of you will be laughing about it together as you cuddle in bed talking about how you first became involved with one another. Good luck putting it behind you!

DesFIP -> RE: A question that's been on my mind for a while. (1/11/2010 5:20:00 AM)

You're entitled to do it, but she isn't required to respond positively to it. Anyway, as long as you aren't doing anything stalkerish, just follow it up with the bald facts: that you've been admiring her for a while and couldn't figure out how to tell her, and you would be honored if she'd agree to go out with you. The worst you can get is a no thanks that you're not her type.

What Panda and DesFip said and good luck, sweetie.
