ownedbytom -> LEEP and orgasms (1/12/2010 10:15:00 PM)

I just found out today that I need to have a LEEP procedure to treat cervical pre-cancer. My doctor told me side effects were minimal, but I've just spent a few hours surfing the internet and found, to my horror, many reports by women who have had LEEP and say it negatively affected either their ability to have orgasms or the intensity of their orgasms.

If you've had a LEEP procedure, have your orgasms been affected?

Thank you.

The LEEP doesn't really affect your orgasm.  I've had several and it's never adversely affected mine.  What affects your body more is the cone biopsy or colposcopy that is often performed at the same time as the LEEP.  Those can cause cramping, spotting, and soreness for a few days.  However, this is usually temporary, or at least it always has been for me.  Just wait a couple of days after the procedure(s) before you have sex.  If you take a couple of ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before you go to the doc, that will help with the soreness and cramping if you have to have a biopsy.

It takes a few days to feel "normal" in terms of letting your body recover. Cramps and some general exhaustion followed, probably in part due to the stress of this whole thing happening. I kept the medication prescribed active in my system for 24 hours. I kept my feet up as ordered, and let myself be pampered for a day. (NOT usual around here.)

The biopsy that found the condition was harder on me than the LEEP. It did not affect orgasms at all. I'm still as sensitive everywhere as I ever was. The thing about the procedure for me was the smell of burning. It let me know what branding would smell like.

Have assisted in many leep procedures and am completely at a loss as to why they would have anything to do with orgasms. A leep takes tissue off the cervix, which would have very little to do with generating an orgasm. Dare I say the P word?? (psychological).

I guess if you think you had to have the leep because you were a dirty girl and had sex, then maybe your subconscious might decide that orgasms are dirty too, and suppress them? Sounds bizarre enough to be true.

Seriously though - I have never had a surgeon tell me that a side effect of a leep is decrease in orgasms.

Hi owned.  First of all, let me be the first to say.....Welcome to the Boards!!  [:D]  Secondly, I've had several LEEP procedures and all that happened was a little cramping and spotting for a day or so.  I can happily report that I had no problem whatsoever with orgasms after.  Even after I eventually had a cervical cone procedure, after the recovery I had no problems whatsoever with orgasms.  [:D]

I was thinking it was probably psychological too. My doc doesn't know of anyone who's had problems orgasming after a LEEP, but the bulletin board I found scared me. Pain and bleeding are no problem for me, but no orgasms??? SErious issue!
