At what point does basic humanity kick in? People are suffering. No-one is saying you have to sort it out, but you don't have to take the piss.
Phil, I'm one of probably only a few people on CM who have been *in-country* in Haiti 6 times, once in the Navy and five times in the U.S. Coast Guard in "Haitian Migrant Interdiction Ops".
As for "humanity" I don't mind helping out until things are stabilized like we did after the Tsunami but I don't want my tax dollars being spent on "nation building" or to let a bunch of fourth world people immigrate to the U.S.
You may have heard that that, "Sec. Clinton is rushing to Washington from Hono to help with the disaster", on the News.
I'm sure that all the homeless people in the U.S. sleeping under bridges, abandoned buildings in 20 degree weather and in homeless shelters will get a warm fuzzy feeling when they hear that!
Haiti is a *shitpit.* You can smell it 50 miles out to sea.
The country is a failure, the govt there is a failure, all the systems are failures. When the U.S. govt gives them our money in "foreign aid" they are making the Taxpayers invest in failures not in this country but in foreign countries! Our Taxdollars are being invested in failures!
And look at those hundred thousand Haitians that Clinton let into our country in '99 (which was supposed to be "temporary!") or so and live in the "pork and beans" section of Miami. Most of them are on some type of public assistance, drug pushers, a vicious street gang that The History Channel did a special on, robbers, muggers and murderers.
You can see them here on shows like "COPS", "The first 48 hours", "America's Most Wanted" and others. I guess we didn't have enough of our own criminals in the U.S.
I wish a reporter would collar Clinton and ask him about it!
When it comes to Haiti it's a "give and take" relationship, we (the U.S.) and dozens of other countries , charities, red cross you name it "give" and Haiti keeps on "taking." And for that Haiti pays us back by being a major transhipment point for drugs into the U.S. (Another reason why the U.S. Coast Guard is down in that area.)
It's like feeding Somalians, why, so they can double their population every ten years?
Haiti will *never* be a third world country. And that's the facts Jack!
