boyTamer -> "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 4:20:03 AM)

On a Gay site (Recon) I belong to I've noticed a "boys' Bill of Rights" on many of the boys' or slaves profile.  I've copied & pasted it here for your viewing....  What do you think about it?

The boys' Bill of Rights Copied from LabourLost's profile:

1. Every boy has the right to have his body, intellect, and emotions protected by his Dom.

2. Every boy has the right to choose the man whom he serves and to discontinue that service and take his leave without being subjected to physical, mental, or emotional abuse.

3. Every boy has the right to be cared for, disciplined appropriately, and allowed to feel pride in his submission.

4. Every boy has the right to protected sex if he so wishes.

5. Every boy has the right to privacy if he so wishes. No boy can be blackmailed, publicly humiliated, or physically coerced into service without his expressed desire to be so.

6. Every boy has the right to defend himself from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

7. Every boy has the right to consent or not to consent to sexual activities.

8. Every boy has the right to seek refuge, counsel, and advice from other subs and Doms without the expectation of sex, money, or any other service in return.

9. Every boy has the right to a physically and emotionally available circle of friends.

10. Every boy has the right to protect his own possessions and finances against intercession, theft, and non-consensual acquisition.

SIRS: Refer to this profile or copy and paste this Bill of Rights into your own if you wish to let subs know how you feel about their rights.

subs, boys, and pups: Refer to this profile or include the Bill in your own and take a stand against abuse.

It's good, but I think it applies to any sub, regardless of sexual orientation

DomImus -> RE: "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 4:55:20 AM)

Sounds good to me. I agree with every item. I started reading the list expecting some of the nonsense we usually see in these types of lists and it wasn't there. Well written to whoever wrote it.

I agree, but I copied & pasted it as I saw it and didn't feel like making any changes in it.  I'M sure it can be changed to suit the person.

It is interesting though any Sir worth his weight in salt would ensure their boy is in a safe and sound dynamic; just like every boy worthy to serve their Sir will ensure the relationship is healthy for them both.

For sure, but regardless, it's still a very good bill of rights :)

Kudos to the original writer..

(Too bad something like that needs to be written for some people to GET what SHOULD be common sense....)

Unfortunately, necessity is the mother of invention, lol.

11. Every boy acknowledges these rights are subject to change without notice. Now suck my cock.

NihilusZero -> RE: "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 10:37:19 AM)

If these are appearing on slaves' profiles, many of the 'rights' are not interpersonally applicable at all. That is to say, someone doesn't get to go into a relationship, willy nilly, with a partner who does not embody the traits necessary for these things to occur and somehow get to wave this list thinking it changes the person they are in a relationship with.

So, this list is pertinent only to the single since, if you are already coupled, you agreed to a different list (those, spoken or unspoken, laid out by your D-type).

The only universal one included is #2 (that everyone retains the freedom to leave), but even that is a bit naive at the end part. The normal fights/arguments that lead to a break-up can, by the willing, be labeled "mental, or emotional abuse" (these are normally self-defined words anyhow).

If this list expresses the things you want in a relationship, then it works (although you'd be better off changing the beginnings to "this boy"), but, benevolent intentions aside, I just don't see the purpose otherwise.

Scary.

The day my power exchange with someone gets reduced to a bill of rights is the day I need to stop doing WIITWD. Determining your relationship dynamics with a partner should be discussion, not a bill of rights.

And for those who will claim this protects the weak, my advice is that if you are too weak to discuss what it is that you want and need in a relationship, you don't need a bill of rights, you need some variety of psychotherapy to work stuff out.

I like reading your posts because your thought process is so different from mine it's interesting trying to figure out where the hell you are coming from. I get the distinctions you are making. And I don't know the intentions of the original drafter. But do you see the difference between presenting the list as "I am a person worthy of this sort of treatment" and "this is the baseline for respectful treatment of fellow human beings"? I mean, isn't that normally the point of presenting something as a Bill of Rights? It applies to everyone in the class, you're not just doing special pleading for your own interests?

Malkinius -> RE: "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 3:44:35 PM)

Greetings boyTamer....

This isn't a Bill of Rights. This is a contract of control with the real dominant in the equation, the boy or sub, controlling the relationship.

I have seen similar things over the years. There are many such things where some sub put down how they think they should be treated. There exist some for slaves as well. I have two comments. The first is that I would laugh as the door did hit them in the ass on their way out. Second, and most importantly, is that if they think they need any part of such a list with any specific person, they should run like hell away from that person and never look back.

I am not arguing that most of those things are there for the safety of the sub. They are. Once again, if the safety needs to be insured through some external mechanism then don't get into that situation. I am not saying not to use safety measures in BDSM play. That is like using a rope when mountain climbing or a condom when having sex. It makes sense from a situational safety point. If you are doing something that can damage you, and you still want to do it, take precautions. If you have to take precautions in the relationship, don't do the relationship.

Be well....

Malkinius

~Fast Reply~

I've skimmed over the comments and my take is that this makes sense... but if I'm in a dymanic where I need this to be written out, I need to get out of that dynamic.

ETA: At the same time, perhaps the act of putting it on a profile will weed out the potential partners who don't agree with it. So maybe it's an excellent thing to put on a profile when one is looking for a partner and not in a relationship yet.

littlewonder -> RE: "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 4:47:23 PM)

Every boy has the right to use his head and realize that a bdsm/d/s relationship starts off and ends the same way as any other relationship on the planet.

kiwisub12 -> RE: "boys' Bill of Rights" (1/15/2010 5:58:05 PM)

To me it sounds like a good weeding-out tool - if your prospective dom objects to anything written and doesn't contact you based on that feeling, then you have done your bit to reduce the potential pool of prospects.(now that sounds good said really fast!)

You have already discouraged those that would attempt to push your limits and are easily offended. Now, the ones that like a challenge would probably be challenged.
