"I dream of jeannie" vs. "bewitched"... - 1/18/2010 11:25:25 AM

Every now and then I have a flashback to something I saw as a kid that resonated with my pre-femdomishness.  I have no idea where or how these ideas got in my head at such a young age, but I have to think the same shows may have flipped a few triggers in fellow kinksters.

Two shows were often playing in my household growing up:  "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched" -- right around the same time.  I remember liking "I Dream of Jeannie" more, and the dynamic of their relationship excited me for some reason.  In my little-girl head, Jeannie was pretty powerful (and sexy, even though she seemed naive about it) - even though she behaved to "Master" as though he was in charge.  I watched the show in hopes she would turn the tables on him more often.  Imagery still sticks in my head that has something to do with him tied up on a bbq spit in an oven?  Does that ring a bell?  I recall nothing, visually, in much detail of that show, except for THAT scene. Go figure!

Moving on to "Bewitched" - I didn't enjoy this show as much, as I found the female lead less enchanting and less sexy. I don't think I saw as many of these episodes.  I don't think I found the lead male character to be as exciting as the lead in "I Dream of Jeannie" though.

Keep in mind, these reflections, while coming from an adult (lol) are based entirely on memories from my childhood. I can't say how legitimate any of them are, because a lot of it may have been perception of a kid.  After all, I was watching these shows sandwiched between "Brady Bunch" and "Happy Days" (and yes, I can tell you any male bondage that happened in these, too).

I saw Bewitched in the sixties and liked it. Looking back, it was a very mundane show, though.

I saw Jeannie about ten or fifteen years ago. It was far more playful and dynamic, I thought. A couple of months ago I downloaded the entire series; it appears to be very popular in India.

Wow, talk about flashback, I haven't seen those shows since their original seasons - Jeannie as definitely better fantasy fodder, Samantha was more of a conventional housewife - I think Endora was probably the more memorable character, she was a bit of what they call a "Cougar" nowadays if I recall, although my memory of these shows is pretty hazy.

Endora mostly hit on men her age, but definitely libidinous, I had forgotten about Serena: she was the Cougar, Samantha's alter ego. Elizabeth Montgomery played both roles.

I never liked it that Darrin wouldn't let Samantha do magic. It made me sad and a little angry that he wouldn't let her be who she was. Never saw much kink in it, though.

But I do remember gushing over the way Miss Piggy bullied Kermit when I was very, very young.

I can't even watch these shows today. The excruciating thing in both cases is that the male in both shows is so insecure in his own masculinity that he has to forbid the powerful woman from using HER powers, even when they would do him nothing but good.

It was a little parable about how threatened men felt by women in the workforce and in the sexual revolution, I think.

Jeanie was definitely in charge of that house, even if she had a master. Samantha was subjugated and confined which is what Endora found intolerable, even though Endora also seemed to allow her errant husband (the letch) who was out of her life, rule on some things.
Those were fun shows but until now I never saw how sexist they presented themselves.

Now Batman.. WHEW.. lol that was kink! Predicament situations, hot women in tights, men with minions at their beck and call... fun stuff. And lets face it, any Catwoman looked great.

The best thing about Bewitched was when Paul Lynde made an appearance, singing "Yaga zuzi, yaga zuzi, yaga zuzi zin!"  lol

I always identified with Samantha's 0n Bewitched's naughty cousin with the dark hair, I can't remember her name, but she was the naughty one. ;)

Serena!   She played the guitar and sang a song called, "If'n"

I remember this shit, and yet, I forgot to make my car payment again today.

Heh.  Utterly stifling.  But, to be fair, she could have overruled him if she'd wanted.  It's not as if he could have done much about it.  That couple were frighteningly square.  I remember they had dinner-for-two at home once.  Both wore evening attire.  He even put on a bow tie -  to eat, in your own home?  Insane.

I think it was Jeannies sister (geeze I cannot remember her name), who had dark hair who put Maj. Nelson on a spit. She was always torturing him.

I don't remember how young I was, but I was pretty little.. I thought Maj. Nelson was an idiot or perhaps gay... She was willing to do ANYTHING he wanted, but all he ever wanted her to do was to get back in the bottle...fool.

I was around 9 or 10 when I dream of Jeannie was big. I was completely in love with her. I wanted to be her and have a Master...plus she was so hot and had that little outfit to boot. It was probably part of my emerging bi-sexuality and I was totally in love with her and used to day dream I was a genie with a Master! lol ahhh childhood fantasy is so BIG when your little. I always wanted them to fuck and was pretty upset Darrin never got a clue to the potential of the situation...I always wondered what the hell is wrong with him. To this day, I think being a genie would be the most kick ass thing to be (little girl in me coming out)

FR- I always liked I Dream of Jeanie because it seemed to me like she was his property, she was dependent on him, he was her 'Master' etc. And while she's definitely spirited and does a lot of things that get her in trouble, 'Master' never seemed to punish her for her debacles. He'd be frustrated but seemed to find her shenanigans delightful. That'd the kinda Master I'd want

I always interpreted Samantha from Bewitched as the one who wore the pants in that relationship.

Liked Jeanie best think she would have loved her Master using a whip on her as she was bound to a bed of nails....yummmm!! Plus she could just blink for more kinky fun for her Master.

Samantha was frustrated not being able to use her powers as she wished. Which explained why she was the most popular Domme in her town esp abusing men!

I'd have to say, the 60's had a lot of FEMDOM undercurrent tv shows. The Grand-Daddy or Mommie--- depending on your kink... is Star Trek.
Just my 2 cents
