No conundrum Julia - if it wanted to hurt you and it could, it should have done so already.

That it hasnt means you have only your own fear to fear.

I remember having an "aha" moment about 40 years ago when my father (who thinks all paranormal is just a load of crap) saw a full-bodied, solid, human apparition one day.  What he saw on a sunday afternoon was the figure of a woman coming out of our bathroom, wearing a robe and a towel around her head, she left the bathroom and headed toward the master bedroom.  Wondering why my mom was taking a bath in the middle of the day, my dad went to the bedroom to see if mom was feeling ill or something.  There was my mother, fully dressed, still with hair dry and styled, makeup on, just on the bed reading a book.  Obviously the woman from the bathroom was not my mother.

It'tricky.

Indeed it is...

a friend of mine is half german and half (I think) Asian...when her dad died a few years ago she was at home spending some time in his office one night, fallen asleep and once woke up where she says she had seen some green light which was in her opinion her dad (don't remember howelse she described it). In her asian belief they also have the view that if a person who died appears in dreams and talks (about whatever) then the person made a good transition over into "wherever." Whereas if the person does not talk, then it indicates that the person did not do the move well or does not rest well....thats part of their belief. This "theory" would fit with her and my experience as my granny does chat as she always did when she (though rarely) turns up in my dreams and from her facial expression hours after she had passed away in the hospital she appeared to be in peace with herself. Whereas her dad has not had a good death (medically things went wrong in his hospital and staff did not react on time to signs of his body decline...and he suffered at the end when he passed away due to error which were made) and she is upset about that he - when she does dream from him - only stays silent in a doorframe....no talking at all..

Apart from that (know that was now not quite the same topic but still about ghost) her niece started to refuse to sleep downstairs at grannys flat anymore...and she used to enjoy sleeping there....when she asked her niece why she does not want anymore (she was 3 or 4) she said she had seen grandpa....

also on one occasion I watched a quite popular tv-discussion show in germany (not arguing crap, just a show where people call about whatever topic and receive good advice, they also have psychologists in the background in case the person might need professional help on that level). On that occassion a person told how her little daughter (aged 3-6, somewhere in that age area) started to say a name she wasnt familiar with...and at a later stage they looked at photoalbums where this girl then pointed to a picture from her granny (which she never met alive) and said this name again which she had chosen or interpreted for her...and so the figured out that this girl was visited from the ghost from her granny at night time on some occations...

so yes...it is tricky...I think, as it was said before, that we don't know everything what is going on between heaven and earth and I think that pretty much anything is possible in that respect....

Hey hon, glad to hear you got some sleep. :)  And nothing unwanted nibbled on you in the night.  ;)  Lady Ellen makes a good point there too.  I wouldn't be too worried about it being malicious.  I still say doing some evp work might be just the ticket.  Who knows, you may just end up making a new friend. :)

If there is any truth to this type of thing...I would think communicating would allow this entity to enter your life...otherwise when the door is opened it could be impossible to close again.

People go crazy every day...perhaps this is why.

Not really, I guess in a way, sort of, but for the most part, it's already there, if there is something there at all, so the door is already open, so to speak.  So, may as well, if something is there, just ask it, "Hey, are you here, or am I just hearing old building noises and seeing odd shadows and need to move the room around some?" :)

NuevaVida -> RE: Should I do an EVP in my Apartment? (1/22/2010 7:01:30 PM)

Hi Julia,

I'm late to the party here but having been in "strange" houses before, the first thing that came to my mind is to welcome and befriend whatever is there.  In my own case, I did not want to be an antagonist and instigate any negative attention.  I lived in a house where doors would shut randomly and on two occasions I felt a hand on my shoulder.  I'd just stop, breathe, say hello, and s-l-o-w-l-y go about my business.

My cousin lived in this really old two story house on the top of a hill in a small town (sounds like a movie theme).  Her husband was a merchant marine and would be gone 30-60 days at a stretch.  She'd often come stay at my place because the noises she heard in her house freaked her out.  Fast forward a year or so, after she decided to brave the place and "befriend" whatever the hell was there, she was home alone with her then infant and at 2AM the smoke alarm went off - just the one outside the baby's door.  Cousin got up, noticed there was no fire, took the battery out of the alarm, and went back to bed.  A few minutes later it went off again.  She got up, jostled the thing but it wouldn't turn off...she sighed, went in to check on the baby, who she found burning up with a fever of 102 point something or other.  As soon as she picked up the baby the alarm stopped blaring and never went off again.  She was convinced then, that this "thing" in her house was friendly, and had gotten her up at night to tend to her very sick baby.

I am not a skeptic of such things, as I have personally lived with them.  I think because I did live with them, I think learning to live with them is better than trying to get rid of them....peace, kumbaya and all that.  [;)]

I just messaged with someone on the other side about this... I do not think that whatever is here is evil or bad... In fact I do not think it dislikes me.. it just... watches... like it is being entertained... like it likes me here... I do not know if that makes sense or not

kdsub -> RE: Should I do an EVP in my Apartment? (1/22/2010 7:21:59 PM)

You just don't watch enough movies...that’s how it works...lol

But really it may not know it can communicate...things may change if it realizes it can.

I always thought if our brains are nothing but a series of electrical impulses...then some of us may be able to hear in a way and understand them. Otherwise what people may be hearing are the thoughts of living beings not dead ones.

You know in the same way as some people can taste colors.

It makes sense to me.  Can you learn to live with that?

Cheap rent, utilities included, view of the ocean, security building, right next to the train... hmmmm... I think I can live with it[:D]

It just very well may like you, or at worst, be confused by you.  For all we know it may be just a little bit of a burp in the temporal makeup of things.

Could be that it's someone from the past that's alive and shadows are just bleeding through somewhat, and you're just as much a ghost to it as it is to you.

Or confused that there's someone else living in its apartment, but won't talk to him/her for some reason.  I know that would confuse the hell out of me.  If I were dead and just didn't want to move on, it wouldn't make me mad at all, just confuse me.  That's a likelyhood too, I think, with spirits.  Some do know they've passed on, but don't want to leave, yet at the same time they can't understand why we're not paying attention to them/that we can't hear or see them.  That would be just crazy confusing to me, I should imagine.

PS:  I didn't get a chance to draw that logo up today unfortunately, friday is a busy busy day for me normally.  But tomorrow is free.  Hooray ghosties with riding crops! [:D]

Julia, leave some milk and cookies out overnight just to see what happens!

I do have a EMF meter at work. I do routine checks on all new stuff we get in and when we have repaired things or modified as the law requires it here. Very few things used in a normal house gives of any significant emission. But watch for cars ignition systems, that can give very high readings if tampered with. EMF is the surge which comes when you collapse a magnetic field in a coil. It gives a very high spike of voltage in the other direction. To illustrate wire a 24 VDC relay via its own NC contact and watch the result on a scope. Voltage spikes in excess of 1000 V is not uncommon. Fit a socalled killer diode over the coil and the problem solved. On AC use a MOV and that also cuts emission.

There is a show on t.v. that goes to places and checks out Haunted situations. I cannot remember the name of the network..

It might be TLC, HGTV or Animal Planet.

What would the Tshirts look like?

I'm not sure but each tshirt would come with a pair of handcuffs...maybe the logo could be slimer, wearing leather and holding a whip [:D]

that being said supposedly my house is 'haunted' as well. Though i've never seen or heard anything to make me think it is. I guess being 190 years old it would make sense though. Plus there used to be an old family cemetary back in the woods from the 1850s that was removed about fifty years ago....so yeah I guess it makes sense.

and i'd like to know why so many people around here have mini graveyards in their yards. its creepy.
