Older people I didn't know were Sir or Maam. Otherwise if you had a first name, and I knew what it was, that was used. If I didn't know your first name, it was Mr/Ms and your last name. I use the same system today. If I don't know you, I might call you Sir or Maam if needed until I know your name which would be about 5 seconds. After that, you get called your first name or whatever other word you want to be called.. except Sir, Maam, Master, Mistress, Mr, Ms, God, Goddess, etc. If you're a Dom or sub, I shouldn't have to remind you who you are by calling you some name (Master or slave). If you don't know who you are by now, a simple honorific from me aint' going to help things. And as for showing respect, that is earned. Politeness, courtesy.. those you can expect from me (unless you're an ass then well all bets are off). But if you want "respect" for your position just cuz you say you're a particular type, then you're probably going to be disappointed in me.

Speaking only for Myself, I have preferred to allow the use of My given name in public gatherings, if for nothing else, to keep the vanillas from catching on. When I am making preliminary inquiries with a potential sub, I usually forego the need to address Me as SIr until they feel comfortable or want to explore a relationship with Me. It is ultimately up to each individual Dom/me to decide how they want to be addressed.
