If god wanted us to watch commercials he/she wouldn't have invented TIVO!

It's a good time for religions to recruit. Since much of the dogma fraud has been exposed there are a lot of disenfranchised [sm=bowdown.gif] 'global warmers' out there.

Pax vobiscum! At least go get a [sm=sex.gif] piece.

Better yet - if this is critical to you, in the words of Father Italo, my alter boy school Latin teacher - "Fac ut vivas."

Brain -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/26/2010 11:10:32 AM)

They need to keep brainwashing people with the Lord to minimize the growth atheism, which they see as a threat because of declining church attendance.

"Recruitement"? "Proselytism"?

Forgive the correction, but a message that reaches out to Catholics to come home has nothing to do with seeking to convert those of other beliefs. Not that I think the mistake  was, oh, say, something more nefarious at play.

If Catholics have left they are no longer Catholics. Pleading for them to come home therefore is an appeal to those of other beliefs. "Proselytizing" seems to be an appropriate word. Why does it bother you? Are you unable to admit that many former Catholics have other beliefs or none?

Because it's inaccurate.  Of course some people adopt other beliefs -- I'm not sure why you think that might be hard to "admit" -- but there's a wide spectrum here, from those who come to completely reject the faith to those who simply didn't feel as connected to the community as they once did. It seems fairly obvious that a campaign called Catholics Come Home is aimed at those millions of Catholics who are closer to the latter group.

Should I ask why you're "unable to admit that"?  Nah.

xBullx -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/26/2010 12:05:42 PM)

this appears to be an intentional misquote and could quite possibly be illegal...but I'm not an attorney so you decide.

Or maybe they see the drop off as their own fault do to the dogmatic account and errant ways; so just maybe they're trying to right the ship before it sinks.

I don't understand all the fuss over TV commercials, hell not many of you bitch over all the tampon commercials...

Termyn8or -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/26/2010 4:18:47 PM)

I don't mind tampon commercials all that much really. However I am sick of businesses buying all the stadiums. The Jacobs family used to own the baseball team, while using public money they kicked in and built Jacobs' field. It has been sold to Progressive insurance company and is now known as "The Pro" insterad of "The Jake".

I will state enequivocably that I will never attend any event in that place if Tampax buys it. I am NOT going down to "The Tamp" for a concert or anything. No way.

Now there's something the Catholic church could do, buy up some stadiums or something. Seems to work well for others. Stop trying to peddle salvation, people want entertainment ! Then I can go see a Black Sabbath concert at "The Pope", or "The Bish", or maybe even "The Card". Then they could charge extra for ice made from holy water. The possibilities are staggerring.

littlewonder -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/26/2010 4:22:42 PM)

Wait you see commercials by catholics on tv every single minute of the day???

I'm lucky if I see one every other day or even once a week..then again I rarely watch tv.

Ya know if you don't like the commercials maybe get your national atheist organization or whatever religion you belong to, to advertise theirs?

I personally don't have a problem with their commercials. Then again I respect them just as much as any other religion because I'm secure in my own beliefs.

So I do not have to see those dam commercials every break on every channel.

Jeezzzz...is this what it's going to be like next election when corporations can spend as much as they like?

I agree! How dare the Catholic Church exercise the right of Freedom of Speech! It's about time Congress pases a law to ban them!

Switch the television off and POUF! It's gone!

I'd have to turn the television on first. Maybe dust it before that.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/26/2010 5:37:34 PM)

When I turned my TV on the other day the image was 2 inches high, it was like watching super wide screen. I hadn't used it in a while then as it warmed up the image got taller and taller, humm strange.

Religious adverts are not permitted in the UK ask ofcom.

Or maybe, they're appealing to people that left the Catholic church while the church leadership was aiding and
abetting priest child molesters, now that the most outspoken cardinal (or bishop, whatever the hell his title/rank)
against that practice is now pope ?

Not all organizations are like the Democrat party, some organizations actually learn from their mistakes. Like
it or not the Vatican's message will be heard by those it's directed too. And since i need to sit and listen to
all kinds of global warming faith-based cultist bullshit I'm not really impressed with people that choose to whine
about having to listen to a Vatican commercial instead of just hitting the damn mute button.

Sad obsession you have there, dragging an anti Democrat stance into an unrelated thread. But's it not your only one - you found a way to throw global warming in too.

And bitching about people's inability to use a mute button while complaining about what you 'need to listen to' demonstrates your own inability to apply your advice to yourself.

Just stick to a single nick and stop adding to the rant count.

Shiroka -> RE: Will the Catholics Please GO HOME (1/27/2010 2:41:51 AM)

the only thing I watch anymore is Adult Swim.that way I get my fill of making fun of celeberites and the likes. When I watch AS it's on my pc so the only commercials I see is for what newer version of "zombie hooker nightmare" is out in their games or the persistant advert for their "my little bastard game"

Are we just so full of hate?

What about an organization responsible for widespread genocide, corruption in every area of leadership to include pedophilia, homosexuality, drug abuse, and more.  An organization so evil that it nearly sent several species of wildlife into extintion just for monetary gain?  Began wars based on lies that were simply covers for more monetary gain or personal vendettas?   Oh I could go on and on about the pure evil of the United States of America.  Yet individual Americans, like individual Catholics are basically good people who abhor the mistakes and sins of their country/church.

Take the log out of your own eye so you can see more clearly to remove the speck from your neighbor's.

You have your own hate it seems, so your first and last lines seem redundant.

And logically, there must be individual evil for an evil in totality to exist. A system is created by the will of individuals even if they thereafter lose the power to alter it. They also endorse it by their lack of actions.

But their actions alone are enough to qualify and only the naive would believe that all Catholics are condemning the current or historical behavior of their church.

And my point is that there are lots of groups who call "Death to America" and I could never understand why.  We do so much good and are basically such nice folks that why would anyone be so upset with us?  Yet someone was upset enough about the Roman Church to not want to see their PR campaigns and it seems the majority on this board would agree that the Roman Church (or any religion) is worthy of hatred.  I have never met a Catholic who in any way has tried to justify the historical behavior of the church or the individual corruption of some of its leaders or members.  The Church, just like Our Country is made up of more than just the leaders and the future does not need to follow the past.

I know my opinion isn't the popular one.  I just don't understand all the hatred.

That is a stretch, I never stated I was upset with the catholic church, I simply stated I was sick of seeing there ads on TV all day long on every channel.  You took that to mean I think it is worthy of hating.  Taking things a bit over the edge I think.  From disliking a TV ad to saying they are worthy of being hated, you'er a bit touchy on the subject I think
