Marini -> Don't come to MD planning to marry your 1st cousin! (2/18/2010 4:12:01 PM)

Okay on my way home this evening, I heard this on the news twice.
It is also on our local prime time news tonight.
Please, don't come to Maryland if you want to marry your first cousin.

Dang, I lived in Maryland for 25 years and I didn't know you COULD marry your first
cousin.
Though I can think of certain large families in Southern Maryland that, well.....

I digress.
Just don't come here thinking you can marry your first cousin, cause we are going

to ban that here!

With all the issues facing us in this area, this is something we need to act on now!!

Give that this is likely about inbreeding, what if your first cousin is the same sex?

How about I come and marry your first cousin for you, Marini? That'd be legal, right?

Seriously, though, it kind of raises an interesting question for me about civil unions and same-sex marriages. Are same-sex couples allowed to marry their cousins? If not, why not? It's not like they're going to be spoiling the gene pool.

Almost a non-issue here in Baltimore, but Dundalk and Essex are going to be very upset!

That is a great question, LadyE.
Actually, you are exempt IF you are over 65 or infertile.
Maybe you can use the infertile clause as long as you don't plan to have children, if
you are the same sex.

I have no interest in marrying any of my 1st cousins, now YOU I might consider.

The sad thing is Panda, with ALL of the very serious issues the state of Maryland has to deal with,

why is Delegate Henry Miller even thinking or bringing this isssue up NOW?
Unless there is an epidemic of 1st cousins marrying in MD, that I am not aware of.

Damn. My first cousins are drop dead gorgeous.

But already married. If only I'd known.....
