I'm making a dress for a fetish event.

I have black leathercloth and blue chinese silk. Should I use mainly silk or mainly leather?

Or should I focus on my physics, so that I will be able to one day get a job and be able to afford fetishwear made by other people?

I am partial to cheomsangs (with mods)

Dare I ask what those mods are?! :P

I've got dark hair and my skin is pretty pale, so either, really-that's part of what is causing my indecision.
(Sorry to be unhelpful!)

I vote for the blue silk. At some point black leather gets boring. It's expected.

Yeps. If you love the blue and it works with you, go for blue.

I think I'm just worried about feeling self-conscious; last time it felt like I was the only person in the entire room not wearing black...

Although maybe if I persuade Peon that he wants to come with me, he can stand next to me, and then everyone can stare at his figure instead... ;D

Blue dress with custom leathercloth waist cincher ?

Blue dress with custom leathercloth waist cincher ?

At the moment I'm thinking blue dress with a bust made from strips of interwoven leather (easy, means I avoid complicated tailoring)-so a waist cincher might would mean a lot of leather close together; maybe I could add a leather panel around my hips, rather than a waist cincher?

I love planning this stuff!

Well, i think what you describe should be enough black.
It's a lot to consider since silk doesn't like to play well with other fabrics in my expirience.
So the pattern and stitching become pretty important in making that decision, methinks.

It's pretty stiff silk-it's proper cheongsam fabric :D
If I do put a leathercloth panel in, it will only mean two extra seams.
I might just say 'screw it' and go for all blue like you say-I'll just have to make sure I have arm candy at all times...;-P

Arm candy is always a good accessory.
