Can leather be worn 24-7 without getting ruined?

We're looking at a leather-braid collar for the boy, but if it's going to be ruined by showers and swimming, it's definitely not gonna work.

pecards leather dressing...........it cant be worn 24/7 you need to dry it (sweat will rot that fucker right now) and clean and moisturize it (not water).............pecards is the creme de la creme of dressings for leather.

um, yeah, you don't want to wear leather 24/7.  Leather is porous, which is why it cracks and tears when it dries out.  Your basic leather treatment replaces oils and/or waxes that the tanning process put into the leather.  Replacing those oils and/or waxes with bodily fluids?  That's a science fair project.

I think leather could work for "mostly 24/7" where the collar is removed for regular cleaning, maintenance, showers, swimming, etc. But if you want a collar for any and all environments, I think you'll have to look at metal that won't rust. But I think no matter what material the collar is made from, there will have to be times where the collar is removed for maintenance. Either that, or you'll be going through a lot of collars.

Leather shrinks and expands when wet and dry thus it quickly will crack especially if in a braid. May need to go a metal or a synthetic material for 24/7.

I kind of like chainmaille myself, durable, available in a number metals and hundreds of designs (some people will actually custom design, based on diff weaves) both male and female, and has some permanence. Reasonable priced as well.

chainmaille or chain mail collar on google road.

I do chainmaille actually, so I was considering doing that XD  I have some nice titanium rings I could use...but the problem is that we want it to be fairly solid and either welded or locked closed.  So chainmaille is out.  :<

Your best bet is stainless steel with a removable and washable padded "boot liner". I don't recommend unpadded metal unless its chain.

With my previous Sir i wore a leather collar for four months and the only time i took it off was for daily showers and to saddle soap it once a week. It was fine, but i think you do need to do regular care and maintenance on it and i would not recommend getting it wet (as in the shower) a lot. It would probably ruin it.

Leather will take a lot of upkeep to stop it from decaying too quickly; and even then you're looking at yearly replacement.

I've had a silver chain on hubby for five years as of May 10th. It looks very much like a necklace with an odd clasp. You decide upon the chain. We went with the screw down closure on a heavy "curb" chain with the snake eye (spanner) screw option. http://www.bondagecollars.com/collar.htm

In five years only three people have commented upon the "odd clasp." One was his Aunt who was told it was so he'd not lose it. One was a random woman at a grocery store. The last was a co-worker who correctly identified it as a collar. Thankfully the co-worker is discreet!

Thanks, I've been waiting for someone with experience on the subject to post. Having worn a leather watch band for years I didn't think that it could possibly be as bad as people were saying so long as it's removed for showers.

yes, leather is going to crack ans wear over time. so you would need to take it off during showers and swimming. i wear a silver chain with a sterling dog tag that has tiny jewels on it. it looks vanilla enough that i have gotten plenty of compliments on it by people who didnt know the signifacance of it. i also have a leather collar that i wear around the house.

There are a few people around doing welded mail in stailless and possibly aluminium although I'm not so sure about Ti. Rivited mail would be the other option for that although again you'd want someone who has the tools and experience to do it rather than trying yourself as the outlay on tools can be quite expensive.
