why was everything seized? did they break some sort of law? are they going with the sex for hire angle? seems a bit of overkill on the part of the police....

Sounds like some of the puritans stayed behind.

it doesn't even say what they were charged with when they were arrested. they imply prostitution but doesn't say if that was the charge or not. im surprised i didnt hear about this on graham norton.

It is UK standard practise ...

In the UK its not illegal to set up as a pro Domme provided you work on your own and you don't leave physical marks on anyone! If two women are found on the premises, along with a client, then it is deemed as running a brothel.
In the cities the police show little interest but there will be much more interest if you open a dungeon out in the sticks.
They had probably been watching clients going in and out, with the full knowledge that there was more than one female in the house. I don't see how else they could of come down on them with so much weight.

A few years ago there was a similar case in Farnborough (small town) when a Domme opened a dungeon on MOD land and had a female friend round for coffee whilst a client was tied up in the dungeon. They couldn't press charges in the end and a huge amount of money and police resources were spent but the result of that was for both women having their full names published nation wide and the woman that had popped in for coffee, having to remove her children from their village school and move house.

I would advise talking to your attorney and your insurance agent first.

The problem is not what the law is, but what the law is perceived to be by the police and the CPS. In other words, conviction for an offence is likely the least of your worries when (as here and other similar cases) you become known as the local whore on the strength of police attention that proves to have been unwarranted but which in the meantime is broadcast near and far.

I wonder if they had simple set their appointments a couple of hours apart so there was never a traffic jam if this would had ever come up in the first place.

Damn, I want to be a rural English sheriff so I can confiscate fun toys.. err contraband.

My very fav part of the article??

This feeds into my theory that horny submissive men lose about 80 IQ points!

Surely it's all about containment with the law, such matters can be regulated in the cities, in the country you are treading upon too many toes. Of course dungeons do survive in the countryside but such establishments must be very discreet.

I agree, having a dungeon in the sticks is risky business. The village police are not exactly rushed off their feet chasing criminals and keeping law and order. Like Lady Ellen said, a conviction is the least of your worries in a place where neighbours know everyone on the street.
Dungeons in the bigger cities tend to get left alone but even certain boroughs of London are risky.

As far as going down the legal route of having a dungeon to hire, there are all sorts of complications. If its your own home and it is more than 10% of the property being used, then you need to approach your local council for change of use and its unlikely they will give it to you but even if they do they will put public notices up on local lampposts to see if there are any protests. Planning inspectors will visit and tell you what is required. They will want to know about noise, numbers in the building including staff, parking etc . You will have to install  things like fire doors and fire notices will have to be added. If you have a commercial building then its the same procedure.
Then you need to find insurance and you may well not be able to find any.
The law is currently changing over here for lap dancing clubs. These clubs are going to have to apply for sex licences to trade and because sex licences are so difficult to be had, most lap dancing clubs will be closing their doors. It may well be that you would have to apply for a sex licence to open your doors.
