Yes, ergot of rye, something which happens to grain if kept in the wrong conditions, usually I believe stored damp. It is believed it was ergot that was responsible for the Salem witch trials, which does make sense. Ergotomine is also a powerful drug used for the treatment of migraines amongst other things, but what a perfect cover for an experiment with LSD. For any inquiry after the fact would say ergot, even if they could not find any evidence, for no one would ever think anyone would spike food with drugs, and certainly not the Americans on the other side of the Atlantic. I suspect most in the little rural villages scattered around Europe and the US could not care less about allies and wars and things unless it directly affected them, it's just stuff of the world outside, sometimes broadcasted on the tv or radio, if they had them. I believe those who enjoy rural village life where they live and work, just care about their own little world, not what goes on across the world, or even in their own capital city, if they have ever been there. But apparently this author whilst researching something else found this story, evidence of central intelligence agency questionable actions. But now it is public, I wonder where this will go.
