I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday, anyone willing to give me their accounts either of how things got better or maybe even something to help me feel that mine is better than yours?

Sure. I was 15, early bloomer, I know. My wisdom teeth were under the jawbone, pushing the bone up and causing me very bad earaches. The operation required complete anaesthesia and they had to saw parts of bone to get to the teeth to extract them.

Now the anaesthesiologist was not able to find a vein in my arm and so poked around in my arm for a while which resulted in me being very traumatised and having a bruise from my palm to halfway between my elbow and my shoulder afterwards. Incidentally, this I think is where my fear of needles stems from today.

After the surgery, my mouth and arm were killing me of course. So they gave me drugs with codeine in it. Well once I got home, I took a pill and as it kicked in, the whole room started spinning, which provoked nausea. I called for my parents who called my doctor. I got rushed back to the hospital as the fear was that I'd throw up and bust my stitches, which I did. Once I felt better, I had to have them restitch parts of my mouth, but they had to wait a while to use local anaesthetic. Turns out, I was allergic to codeine.

Feel better now? ;-)

I had mine out.

Do not pick at the soft pockets.   It heals pretty fast.   Routine.  no problem.

I had the lower wisdom teeth removed over 20 years ago when I was in the military. No bills...LOL! Had advil for the pain. These days I am having some teeth pulled due to big cavities. I have no pain afterwards but I get the pain killers to use for my migraines (which is off and on).

Everyone is different when it comes to wisdom teeth.  I was eating regular food a couple days after, cut up in small pieces with lots of gravy.  My ex was in bed for a week.  Just remember that in a couple weeks you'll be good as new.

You don't mention how they were removed, whether they were simple extractions or you had surgery.....if they were simply pulled, DON'T do anything that would create suction, like drinking through a straw. That can suck the blood clot out of the socket and expose the nerve underneath it, which can be excruciating.

If surgery, the only thing you can do is apply ice for swelling, take the painkillers and just rest until they're healed up. :) Fortunately, they usually feel better in a day or two.

I removed 2 so far.
I got them removed one at a time.

And I am so glad they're gone, the surgery was worth it.

Believe it or not, I never had to have them removed for the usual problems of roots twisting around other roots (which was my sisters problem) growing in crooked...or anything like that.  Mine came in ok, but after a while I had mine pulled because they started to rot.  (Gross, I know).  Apparently wisdom teeth just arent meant to be included in a full set of teeth.

4 days before christmas a couple years back...  They knocked my ass out completely since mine were impacted, shattered, and coming in at all kinds of funky angles.  I wasn't chewing on any steaks for a while, that's for sure, but, I was able to enjoy about 90% of the christmas eve dinner I cooked.

I've always healed up from injuries/surgeries/etc very very quickly though. 

As long as you're careful not to develop dry socket (so rinse them thangs with salt water often!) you should be golden.  I know by 7 days in, I was feeling just peachy keen... but that might have something to do with the tequila I had on hand from one of my christmas presents. [:D]

In answer to your question Windchymes I was put under and had them cut out. I am feeling much better now that I am on day two of the healing possess, then again I am on 2 different pain meds. The surgeon gave me one that is an acetaminophen (Tylenol) base which has not worked well for many years now. I had my boyfriend call the pharmacy to see if I could take anything on top of it and thankfully I can. So surprisingly not high but feeling better, even nibbling cheese.

I had all 4 removed at once at about age 18. They were impacted too. Think it took about a week or 2 to feel fully better and that was with the medication and rest. If there are stitches to be removed that may hurt a bit. Jello. pudding and yogurt are all good.

I had all four pulled at once - a bit of IV sodium pentathol and I didn't know about it. Afterwards, ice bags and pain pills for two days worked wonders. The nice thing is that they don't grow back!

You might call your doctor and tell him the pain pills aren't doing much and see if he will give you something else.

Like I said I am now on two, Oxycodone and Ibuprofen. Works wonders now

I had all four removed when I was 20 or 21. They never showed up and then I got a lot of pain in my lower right jaw. It turned out that all 4 were facing completely frontwards and moving in that direction. The lower right jaw had an abcess in the bone that was about 3/4 inch long, and the back roots of that next molar were destroyed. They had to cut into my gums, crack the bone open and extract the wisdom teeth. Then, for two weeks I had to stick a little plastic syringe thing in a hole in the back of my mouth and irrigate the abcessed region with a saline solution.

It wasn't fun, at all, but it only took me about a week until I could get my jaw open enough for solid food, and I was off the vicodin by like day 3.

Best week of my life.
I took my pain medicine as scheduled. Gargled with warm salt water, and ate mashed potatoes and drank Mister Misties (a slushy drink). Don't pick at it and give yourself time to heal.

Wow, when I was a kid, Dairy Queen sold Mr. Misty's.....haven't heard of them in years, lol.

Glad you're feeling better, NT.  I had mine out the same way, and also had the dissolvable sutures.  That seems like a good idea, but I remember long tails that were left on the sutures going down my throat when I drank anything and gagging me for about a week, till they finally did dissolve!  Yuk!
