To answer your question, no, the points do not have dollar value when you redeem them.  Seriously.  The points will be based on location of hotel and remain the same regardless of what the room rate is on that particular date.   So there is no tax.   In fact, the amount spent staying at the hotel or airfare could have been tax deductible if used for business travel.

Another advantage to the frequent traveler plans is that after a certain point many will offer "bonus" points to your stash.  Hilton has different ways to do this; you can pick bonus points with Hilton, bonus points with an airline, or water/snacks in your room upon arrival.  With certain levels you can get room upgrades.

When you're on the road a lot, the little extras are appreciated.

But what I really enjoy is the Marriott-Hilton fights amongst coworkers.

To get his check just just needs a post office box . My X and I moved to a new town and had just gotten started at new jobs . She went to ask for help from food stamp office so we could eat till our fist pay checks . She had to have proof we both worked and a letter from the land lord with how much we payed in rent . 2 girls about 25 came in with thier grandmother and had her file for food stamps none spoke english while in the office . They walked out with $1,000 in food stamps and a where told to come in the next week to fill out the paper work to get on food stamps and other things . When she asked why they got so much she was told they had a baby and where had just arrived from Mexico . The goverenment says you can't ask them any ID or turn them down if they need help . But if you live here you have to have it all and then some .

Not that I don't doubt the validity of your story but the question I would like to ask is would you rather their protocol be made more stringent or should your protocol be made less stringent?

According to some of the eligibility sites, all require some type of ID, even a library card for a homeless person.
