Church Sex Abuse Scandal 'Has Now Reached' The Pope: AP
 
VATICAN CITY Germany's sex abuse scandal has now reached Pope Benedict XVI: His former archdiocese disclosed that while he was archbishop a suspected pedophile priest was transferred to a job where he later abused children. The pontiff is also under increasing fire for a 2001 Vatican document he later penned instructing bishops to keep such cases secret.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger should have reported the sexual abuse in his archdiocese back in the 1980s. He should have demanded a full and thorough investigation and been forthright with the new parish whom he assigned a molesting priest.

Coupled with the document he authored in which he wanted bishops to keep sexual abuse under a cloud of pontifical secrecy is a clear sign that he committed obstruction of justice. His entire papacy is shrouded in suspicion. How can anyone continue to support his regime as pope?

He is not a beloved pope, at least not for many people. 

To see any religious organization, especially one with such power and influence, try to hide the fact that there were cases of child abuse both saddens and infuriates me.  Children are supposed to be protected, loved, and taught, not harmed, horrified and traumatized. 

Specifically, for the Catholic church, I would have liked to seen swift, aggressive action taken against accused child molesters.  Involve the local police in the investigation, suspend the priest in question and if he's found guilty, excommunicate him. Make it quite public that these actions are not condoned, tolerated or hidden anymore and that anyone found guilty of molesting a child will face the worst the church has to offer.

Of course, I'm a very eclectic Wiccan, so my views may not have a great deal of bearing in this matter.

Okay Brain first,your endorsement of belladevines post is not a great surprise...you seem to have some sort of axe to grind,of a personal nature,with all of the worlds Catholics....This is alright,you have already spent any capitol you ever possessed with your increasingly rambling and disjointed posts.Have at it....you have been consigned to the loony bin anyway.
Vixandia...I'm what's known as a "fallen" or"lapsed Catholic"...,meaning it is the religion of my parents and it was spoon fed to me...but I have issues with both the dogma and the church....Issue #1 is I am a survivor of molestation...and the church's non response to that most hateful of crimes is a black mark on any and all who played a part in the decision making process.But being a realist...and knowing the church itself is nothing more than one large bureaucracy trying to defend its turf...I was not surprised.Families where incest and molestation of children occur circle the wagons and protect the abuser...why ,because quite simply it is a stigma that stains all that are touched by it....is this right and correct...No ,of course not...but speaking from first hand knowledge it is how human beings react to that which is too terrible to face.
So after all of that babble,,,I would overwhelmingly agree with you when you suggest how you would have liked to see the church react...but my experience tells me there was never a snowballs chance in hell of that happening.

Not all Catholics, a lot of Catholics, but not all. I don't like people like Anthony Scalia and John Roberts. I do like Catholics like John and Robert Kennedy. In any case, the Catholic Church does not get a pass on child abuse by me. Oh and thanks for calling me “loony” I need help to understand what kind of person I really am.

I thought I have read that the current pope was some kind of leader of an internal court.
They say he is very strict ( compared to other popes who tried to hide these cases) and is digusted by these things.
And although the news is bad. At least it is known now.

but..we shouldn't forget who much people with childporn or for child abuse are arrested weekly that are not related to the church.

Well the whole world is part of it...because I never saw cops running into a church to arrest a priest or what ever. (soem things were already known in the 60's and 70's)
That is what really pisses me off. The whole world gives the church a special treatment.
( or perhaps I don't know enough about it...pisses me off anyway).

Besides that. Abused people often take money...in change to keep still..that is not really helping also.

Besides..the besides....the church should burn the abusers like they did with witches.

Why should "the church" be allowed the pleasure of burning thier.
I say burn the whole thing down with them in it.

We the PEOPLE want JUSTICE!

Our laws exist to prosecute ewe!
Stinking politicians that protect the church should be dipped in their black gold and set A- blaze in the rose garden.
